LOCATION: Edinburgh & Leeds

HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

Colleague Lab sits at the intersection of colleague and customer experiences across IP&I. By reducing failure demand, increasing self-service and automating processes, through technology, systems design, AI, and human centred design, our Lab works cross-channel across IP&I to make change happen, at pace.

Contribute to designing, building code to deliver products that are fit for purpose and meet the quality standards that our customers expect. You'll help solve problems and overcome challenges around our pensions & investments products, helping to personalise data and increase customer engagement with our products. Working in one of our cross-disciplinary teams engineers will have the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and understanding as well develop, practice, and demonstrate the workplace skills and behaviours required for this job role.

As a Software Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in the future of our product development, shaping the way we design, build, test and deploy using innovative technology. You'll work collaboratively with other team members, partners and third parties to create empowered teams who are motivated to solve business problems and realise value to customers.

What you'll need

  • Able to help design, build and test backend microservices and RESTful APIs.

  • Proven experience in JavaScript development (ideally Node.js, React or Angular).

  • Some understanding of containerised services (e.g. Kubernetes).

  • Able to create tests and work with pipelines to prove strong and maintainable code.

  • Understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end-to-end delivery of software products.

  • Experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g., Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of working as part of an agile team.

  • Any experience of Java and Python development would be a plus.

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • A dynamic and adaptable individual, able to use and learn new skills in varying circumstances.

  • Familiar with microservice development and understand how this works.

  • Knowledge of creating front end applications and optimising them to provide the best experience for our colleagues and customers.

  • Influence positively - demonstrating the right values and behaviours and encouraging this in team members.
