Overview:

My client is looking for a dynamic and high performing Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with current MoD or Government experience to work within the business as the CTO to inspire, lead and deliver large scale information systems capability developments, automation, and sustainment projects. This is a complex and challenging role that will be highly rewarding and high profile, with extensive communication and interfacing requirements with the Business stakeholders, demanding excellent technical expertise, innovation, interpersonal skills and high levels of energy and stamina. The work location will primarily be based at Customer Sites with frequent visits to other company sites in the UK and occasional travel overseas.

The Role:

The CTO, working with Head of the CSI Business and CSI Programme Engineering Manager, will drive the technical strategy and growth of engineering capability in the business, inspire technical excellence and high quality and innovative designs to meet complex customer requirements. The CTO will be at the cutting edge of current technical knowledge, will have a wide networks of industry contacts and potential delivery partners, and will have excellent insight into the customer's own technical strategy. The CTO will provide oversight and technical leadership to the Chief Engineers in the sub-business areas, and also link in closely with CTOs in the wider business, and other Technologies elements in US and overseas.

Main Duties:

The CSI CTO's key tasks are those of a technical expert deeply involved in shaping and implementing overall technical business strategy and thought leadership within the CSI business. Examples of those tasks include but are not limited to:

Researching, monitoring and assessing C2, Intelligence and Space Domain customer and programme and bid technology needs, advising senior executives on direction, trends and capability gaps.

Maintain a progressive outlook on the latest trends in IT technology with specific focus on large IT enterprises, large data set storage and analytics, infrastructure virtualisation, cloud migration and service delivery.

Senior technical stakeholder engagement, informing and maintenance of technology roadmaps aligned to the business need.

Drive innovation and differentiation through the adoption of new technology to satisfy future specific customer needs.

Setting a vision for how technology will be used in the CSI Business.

Ensuring that the technological resources meet the needs of the CSI Business in the short and long-term.

Creating timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services.

Acting as a mentor to team members.

Present white papers and technical proposals to capture and present thought leadership.

Support new business capture efforts though bid shaping and bid response.

Support RSL supported, public and government bodies through consultancy and advice on policy and standards.

Champion the highest standards of culture and ethos through the business team, customer and partner community.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

Proven experience as a CTO or similar leadership role

Technical Leadership - leads by example in respect of the internal technology community and engages in growing the skill base of the organisation organically and through collaboration.

Experienced in the principles of Project/Task based Management, Risk Management, MS Project, EVMS, Programme Performance Reviews and Cost Account Management.

Ability to identify and understand technical programme issues, to summarise and identify key concerns and follow through with the development and execution of a corrective action plan to resolve the issues.

Ability to rapidly assimilate information, culture and process to bring to maximum effect in a short space of time

Significant intelligence and law enforcement senior experience, ideally with CxO leadership position in corporate or civil service domain.

Advanced technological skill set and a demonstrated history with technology.

Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy

Demonstrable experience of participating in industry bodies.

Broad and deep technical knowledge across the domain.

For the Contract role an existing Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance would be preferable

Desirable:

Educated to Masters/PhD level

Member of relevant professional body.
