Role - Software Work Package Leader

Location - Worcestershire

Duration - 6 months

Job description/Person specification

*Lead a large team developing embedded real-time software for a complex GNSS product development programme. Work undertaken will encompass all stages of the development life-cycle, including requirements analysis, design, development and integration/test.

*Ensure the implementation of a rigorous software engineering approach, maintaining processes and procedures to ensure their fitness for purpose and introducing new where not already in place.

*Work as part of a multidisciplinary systems/software team and closely with the project manager and other technical leads to ensure the solutions are wholly integrated.

*Drive forward technical progress and quality, whilst identifying opportunities and controlling cost effectively.

*Ability to understand detailed real-time software solutions.

Key Accountabilities

*Responsible to Project Design Authority for all software related activities.

*Responsible for planning and structuring the work effectively, working with other technical leads to break down work into manageable packages and generate task definitions for the team.

*Responsible for ensuring that an effective software development process is applied; requirements are captured, reviewed, refined and traceable to design, implementation and test artefacts.

*Responsible for ensuring that appropriate design assurance and governance is applied to meet internal standards and any identified external standards.

*Ability to accurately cost work and manage risk.

*Production of written documentation (including presentation material) of technical work in accordance with Project requirements.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

*Degree in an Engineering, Science or Maths discipline combined with significant experience of the development of real-time software for large complex systems.

*Proven experience of working in a rigorous systems/software engineering environment using formal design tools/methodologies (e.g. StarTeam, DOORS, Enterprise Architect, Altassian…) and high level languages (e.g. C++, C#...)

*Proven knowledge and experience of specification, design and implementation of complex real-time software solutions for high performance embedded systems.

*Experience of structuring and successfully leading large teams of systems/software engineers engaged in development of complex real-time systems.

*Proven ability to architect, design and implement software solutions involving implementation of complex algorithms, working closely with systems engineers to analyse/understand performance requirements.

*Experience of working on high control projects.

*Good verbal and written Technical English communications skills.

Desirable Experience

*Working knowledge and understanding of the Systems Engineering domain

*Experience of using an iterative development approach

*Experience or familiarity of GNSS Receiver systems

*Experience leading teams to deliver high assurance software against software assurance standards (e.g. DO-178C).
