The Global Platform Data Service Architect is required to support the technical team, define the roadmap for the data service using existing cloud platforms, advise on technical strategy, feasibility and complexity of the approach and engage with technical leads within a globally distributed virtual team advising on best practice in the use of the data service.

You will develop the Data Service for the UN Global Platform to support the sharing of data across the Global community and you will develop the Data Policy Framework and the Information Management and Governance Framework.

Requirements

- Track-record of leadership in successful design, delivery and continuous improvement of high quality data services which maximise opportunities offered by digital technology

- Proven ability to motivate self-organising agile teams, delegate decision making to the most effective level, and empower teams to deliver to the best of their abilities

- Strong exposure to cloud data science / analytics platforms (Alibaba/AWS/Azure/Google)

- Strong experience of deploying hadoop, spark, accumulo and other big data tools

- Experience with geospatial data science/visualization

- Knowledge of machine learning / artificial intelligence

- Good communication skills with engaging with senior business stakeholders

- Some programming skills (e.g. Python)

- Experience of working on international projects

- Experience of working in small high performing teams/startups

- Hands on experience in developing platforms

- Experience in identifying, selecting and working with 3rd party suppliers

- Experience in using modern collaboration tools, Slack, Trello and Google Docs
