COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Shell started operations in the United Kingdom more than 110 years ago. Since then we have grown into a leading innovative oil and gas company that rewards its employees by investing heavily in their careers and learning. Our people are our greatest asset, and our commitment to your career will see you thrive in a work environment that offers an industry-leading development programme. When your ideas travel, Shell will benefit and innovation will thrive. Shell has a key role to play in helping meet the UK’s growing energy demand, whilst using innovative technologies to develop cleaner energy. We are the largest FTSE 100 company in the UK by market capitalisation, and make a significant contribution to the UK economy. As well as processing 35% of the gas coming into the UK, we serve more than four million customers at our filling stations each week. Shell employs some 6,400 skilled staff as well as many contractors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

An ideal move for someone who’s proven their experience in a role as Solution Architect with expertise in management information and analytics in an international environment. This role is a chance to showcase your strategic thinking, technical background and stakeholder management, contributing to projects that span the globe.

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

Shell has earned a reputation as a pacesetter. There’s so much going on here - our projects span the globe. Join us and you’ll find it’s a refreshingly collaborative environment where people are encouraged to ask questions and explore new approaches. An ambassador for architecture, your challenge will be to strike the right balance between meeting business needs and the overall IT strategy, pulling together individuals with different views to arrive at the right solution for everyone.

You’ll be providing end-to-end solution architecture development, consultancy

and assurance to anywhere between one and five different projects. Accountable for some of our higher level, higher risk projects, you’ll focus on management information and advanced analytics and how we can derive maximum commercial value from a wealth of data. Your remit spans document reference models, documenting projects solution architecture and coaching other business analysts and detail designers in their work.

If you enjoy thinking proactively and strategically, and you have the natural people skills to defuse differences of opinion and manage multiple stakeholders - you’ll be in your element here.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies, active across more than 80 countries, employing some 90,000 people. Our business is organised into Projects & Technology, Upstream and Downstream. Downstream (the sector you’ll be part of) refines, supplies, trades and ships crude worldwide, and manufactures and markets a range of products, and produces petrochemicals for industrial customers. Specifically, you’ll be part of our Downstream IT Strategy, Planning & Architecture (SPA) organisation.

REQUIREMENTS - WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

You’ll make the most of your experience (in a similar role) of designing, building, integrating and supporting MI solutions, including building hybrid landscapes where SaaS solutions need to integrate with on-premise applications.

It’s your personal skills that will make the difference. You’ve proven you’re a confident communicator and a good storyteller - someone who can influence others and drive change, even when you’re working across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries. You’ve gained a reputation for being rigorous and well organised, with a good eye for detail; your strong planning skills and awareness of project delivery methodology enable you plan effectively, even when there’s uncertainty or risk.

Technically, SAP expertise is important, but we don’t want someone who’s exclusively worked in SAP. We’re keen to hear from men and women whose CVs include:

A degree, preferably related to Information Technology, Information Management or Software Engineering

SAP BIW, SAP ECC AND SAP HANA

Spotfire

Microsoft

In addition, some of the following would be ideal:

Experience with Togaf

Knowledge of data modelling

IBM Rational System Architect
