Uppingham School are seeking a Data Protection specialist to lead and manage the School's data and GDPR compliance inline with the GDPR and Data Protection and to ensure the smooth integration of data responsibilities in the School’s culture thereafter.
Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is an attractive place to work. A leading co-educational independent boarding school, it is a complex organisation: in addition to educating 800 pupils, the School has a number of trading activities including a Summer School, a dual-use Sports Centre, and a School Shop on the high street that sells to both pupils and public. The School holds personal data relating to its 800 pupils, their parents (c. 650 families), 600 staff, c, 7,500 alumni (‘Old Uppinghamians’), 20 School Trustees, and several hundred customers of the Sports Centre and Summer School. The personal data covers a wide range of information including the health of pupils and child protection data.
As the GDPR Project Manager, you will:
Devise and implement the strategy to ensure the extensive data held by the School is compliant with all relevant legislation
Manage the data protection risk - generating risk management reports to inform decision-making and assess quality of practice
Produce and disseminate all necessary policies, privacy notices, etc. in line with legislation
Foster a data protection culture among staff in the School and provide compliance advice to senior management and to colleagues generally.
The successful candidate will be GDPR Practitioner Certificate qualified and will have proven expertise in data protection, including experience in designing and implementing a data protection strategy.
In return we offer a generous benefits package including a generous pension scheme, 50% contribution to premiums for School’s private health scheme, free membership of dual-use Sports Centre (£15 annual joining fee), free staff lunches in term-time and a school fee discount scheme for children of staff (75% discount on day fees).
For more information and to download the school application form please click the APPLY button.
Closing date for applications is 9am, Tuesday 6 February.
Please note as an independent school, Uppingham School does not (currently) have to appoint a formal Data Protection Officer, with the regulatory obligations that accompany this title. At some point in the future, it is, however, possible that this role may have to change to a DPO.
Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.
