Reactor Group Test Chairman

A market leading FTSE 100 organisation is currently recruiting for Reactor Group Test Chairman to take on permanent position. Overall Department Direction

Consisting of some 200 roles comprising professional engineers, and numerous management & support staff, the Nuclear Operational Governance organisation, reporting to the Head of Nuclear Operational Governance, is charged with the responsibility of the safe and effective operation and maintenance of these facilities, including the provision of governance over the complete range of nuclear significant activities undertaken therein.

The organisation offers wide-ranging opportunities in Facility, Design, Nuclear Safety Case, and Project management. As part of the wider change agenda the organisation is currently experiencing a period of significant modernisation, with the aim of improving efficiency and quality of output, and providing improved control of work and safety case compliance via a scalable construct sized and shaped to deliver the complex and changing Customer demands both in the immediate term, and the future.

Main Purpose of Role

* Responsible for the day-to-day governance of commissioning activities undertaken on the reactor plant of submarines.

* Responsible for the timely authorisation of reactor test documentation and the assessment and acceptance of the consequent results.

* Take the lead on behalf of the respective Plant Manager for the adequate implementation of the associated facility safety case, and chairing the RTG.

* Engage with stakeholders across the breadth of and at all levels in the Submarine Support Business Unit, as well as with Contractors and Customers outside of the organisation and Company.

* To carry out the function of Chairman of the Reactor Test Group (RTG).

* To ensure all Test Documentation required to support the reactor commissioning programme is authorised by the RTG.

* To ensure that the results of tests and trials conducted under RTG control are assessed and accepted.

* To ensure that all staff engaged in production of reactor test documentation are suitably qualified and experienced (as specified by JSP 518 and SBU(D)-SD-178)

* To ensure that the potential radiological dose for all tasks prescribed by the Test Groups has been assessed, minimised and is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).

* To ensure that all RTG documentation includes the correct provision for conventional Health and Safety in accordance with best practice.

* To ensure that documentation authorised by the RTG is compliant with the relevant Plant Safety Case.

* To be aware of the responsibilities of a DAP.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

* Involvement in 3 previous Power Range Testing evolutions as an Assistant Senior Test Engineer, Senior Test Engineer or RTG Member (Desirable)

* Extensive recent experience in the operation, upkeep, and/or commissioning of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (Essential)

Qualifications

NRC and NPOC or ONOC.
