Red Hat Linux system Engineer - San Storage TCP IP Networks - Investment Bank
Linux system Engineer with experience of Red Hat Linux in a large production environment is required where you will be part of the Core OS team providing Linux and Unix operating system support for production and project services. Financial industry / Investment Banking experience is preferably.
Hands on systems administration, hardware configuration activities, and software installation and deployment activities.
Experience required:
- Experience of RedHat Satellite and/or Canonical Landscape.
- Experience of using configuration management tools, specifically Puppet and Ansible.
- Experience of AD Authentication tools and technologies.
- Ability to write thorough technical documentation for use by other team members, local and global.
- Performance tuning of software and OS stack. Docker / Rancher. Veritas stack (Infoscale Storage and Availability).
- Virtualisation Software (VMWare, KVM). Exposure to SAN storage solutions (EMC or similar) Exposure to NAS solutions (NetApp or Similar).
- TCP/IP Networking. Operating System patching. Scripting (Python/Ruby/Bash).
- Version Control (git/gitlabs).
- Samba/CIFS.
- Storage configuration skills using standard Linux tools (disk partitioning, RAID configuration.
Desirables:
- Exposure to Oracle including RAC and ASM. ELK (ElasticSearch/Logstash/Kibana).
- Ubuntu / Debian.
- Distributed software storage solutions. LDAP. Low latency tuning - Kernel Passthrough, 10GbE. RHCE Certification highly desirable. AIX. Exposure to Apache, Tomcat. Exposure to backup solutions. Knowledge of ITI. Network clustered file system
Role:
- The System Administrator will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of system software and system hardware and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
- The Core OS team is an engineering/production support team responsible for design, development and support of trading systems running on virtualized and non-virtualized platforms. Understanding of high availability solutions is a must.
- This is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual who wants to extend their solid and broad skills.
- The candidate will be expected to drive forward introduction, validation and implementation of new Linux technologies.
- The role involves the simplification of providing and maintaining o/s instances by leveraging software development and open source solutions to automate many tasks. Exposure to Cloud type deployment technologies including OpenStack would be highly advantageous.
- The team provides 24 hour cover via ‘on-call’ support and implements planned weekend maintenance activities.
- The environment consists of approximately 1800 Linux and 70 AIX systems. Performance analysis and incident troubleshooting is performed according to specific SLA’s.
