System Analyst

The function is to document / manage system requirements, and undertake system analysis and design. To perform these tasks communication and collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders and technical experts is essential. Key to the role is the ability to analyse business requirements and to ensure that system requirements are captured accurately to provide a technical solution which will adhere to the business objectives. Effective written and oral communication skills are required.

What are my responsibilities?

Liaise with business and customers to understand their requirements. Review the business requirements and business processes.

Effective elicitation, documentation and management of system requirements, via clearly written documents to ensure that system requirements are accurately documented and the solution provided are aligned to business and customer objectives.

Support the full IT delivery team by providing expert advice and guidance on the solution including in-depth knowledge of the business and system operations.

Appreciation of Cost Benefit Analysis and Cost Benefit Realisation, where applicable, to ensure that the value of delivery is known.

Management of stakeholders and technical experts to ensure that all relevant parties contribute to and are communicated with throughout the systems analysis and design process.

Identification of risk and ability to manage and mitigate, within the remit of the role, are important to ensure that appropriate actions can be taken.

Produce system requirements (functional and non-functional) and functional specification (for legacy systems) or use cases (for non legacy systems). Create system and user interface specifications.

Create use case diagrams and descriptions, activity, class and sequence diagrams.

Review test scenarios and evidence. Support test phase by answering test queries and analyse problems raised during testing.

Present technical solution and design to different internal and external audiences.

Work with architects to resolve design issues.

Work with development teams to ensure that solutions are produced in accordance with the solution specifications.

Perform data analysis, system analysis, integration and database design activities.

Investigate the implication of systems changes, included preferred solution and alternatives and provide estimates. Provide solutions for legacy systems and off the shelf products.

Ensure customer, industry and corporate standards, processes, procedures and policies are adhered to by the technical solution.

Provide support and guidance to operational users including operational acceptance.

Partake in peer reviews of documentation.

Promote team working and provide advice and guidance to colleagues and business users on system analysis issues.

Provide input and assistance to the Project Manager.

Able to plan and track own work against project deadlines.

On occasion visit other sites and work on customer premises as required.

Report production.

Participate in product evaluation and selection process.

Participate in bid process.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

SKILLS

Analytical approach to problem solving.

Have knowledge and experience of data migration - strategy, rules and mapping, transformations and cleansing of data. This can include data take on and data extraction.

Effective stakeholder management (RACI).

Have experience of interfacing with customers, suppliers and technical experts.

Experience of working the full project life cycle (SDLC).

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Have excellent influencing skills.

Have good knowledge of SQL.

Effective time management and prioritisation of work load.

Effective change management.

Experience in using requirements engineering tools.

Provide accurate estimates.

Extensive Utilities experience is essential.

Smart Metering experience is beneficial.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Educated to degree level or relevant business experience.

ISEB Accreditation or other recognised System Analysis / Design qualification is desirable.

Knowledge of DTC and RGMA flows is essential.
