CPRD Software Developer
Permanent, Full Time position
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.
The agency is made up of circa 1300 staff working across two main centres and peripatetically across the UK and abroad.
CPRD, jointly funded by the agency and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), is the UK’s preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data for research. CPRD services are designed to maximise the way anonymised NHS clinical data can be used to improve and safeguard public health. For more than 20 years data provided by CPRD have been used in a range of drug safety and epidemiological studies that have impacted on health care and resulted in over 1500 peer-reviewed publications. The UK is in a unique global position to use clinical records in novel ways for patient recruitment, clinical trials management and follow up. In addition to supporting high quality observational research, CPRD is developing world leading services based on using real world data to support clinical trials and intervention studies.
Purpose of the role:
CPRD is entering a period of significant expansion, offering increasing volumes of anonymised healthcare data for research and innovative services and products to support observational and interventional studies. The Software Developer is responsible for creating technology solutions to facilitate all aspects of healthcare data use for public health research. Responsibilities include writing code and scripts to deliver against technical specifications, debugging or enhancing existing software, providing maintenance and support across live systems and contributing to testing and documentation.
This role is part of the Data, Tools, and Technology (DTT) group and reports to either the Data Transformation Manager or the Lead Technical Manager. The role requires close cooperative working with other members of the DTT team, as well as regular liaison with CPRD research staff and MHRA’s Information Management Division (IMD).
We are seeking a motivated individual with experience of software development to join our expanding organisation. You will be able to undertake software development within a structured framework including fixing bugs and post release support and maintenance, have a sound understanding up to date technologies and have an ability to share information, working in a timely, structured manner.
Qualification:
BSc in Information technology, computer science, or equivalent work experience.
