The Role:

Nesta is the UK’s innovation foundation. Our mission is to help people and organisations bring great ideas to life, "catalyse innovation for the common good". We are now looking for a Senior Programme Manager to join our Centre for Challenge Prizes to deliver a major FinTech (financial technology) initiative that will benefit the UK’s small businesses.

This high profile programme will be positioned at the cutting edge of trends in open data, banking and is also closely allied to regulatory moves aimed at enhancing transparency and competition in the business banking market. The prize will incentivise FinTech companies to develop sophisticated, data-driven comparison tools to support small businesses in making informed choices about the right financial products and services for them.

The prize will build upon the rapidly evolving technological landscape in banking (e.g. Open Data and Banking APIs), as well as regulatory support for more sophisticated comparison tools and services. Given that the challenge prize will sit at the intersection of several different agendas, its success will be predicated on active engagement with SME business bodies, FinTech companies, banks, regulators and policymakers.

The Senior Programme Manager will work closely with a wider team on the execution of this initiative, with scope to play a role in the delivery of future Challenge Prize Centre initiatives. The successful candidate will oversee multiple project delivery partners and work streams in order to deliver a programme spanning approximately two years. This will encompass the management of judging panels, multi-level assessment processes, a programme of ‘in-kind’ support to challenge participants, a series of high-profile events, and associated communications and PR activity. It is anticipated that the prize will attract considerable media and political interest, and this individual will play a central role in coordinating stakeholder relationships with small business and FinTech representatives, high street banks and industry regulators.

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience of managing large-scale, complex, projects end to end - from detailed project set up and defining deliverables and dependencies, through to daily project management to exacting timescales.

Knowledge of one or more of the following fields; e.g. financial data and technology, start up accelerators, financial regulation, banking products and markets.

Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of delivery partners, encompassing both technical (e.g. legal, data, tech) and non technical (e.g. marketing and events) specialisms.

Ability to deal with conflicting priorities and arrive at pragmatic decisions and solutions.

Demonstrable ability to think strategically and influence key stakeholders.

A focused completer/finisher with excellent attention to detail.

Experience of project governance, reporting to boards and successfully managing significant budgets.

Experience of leading a small, high performance team.

Excellent writing, communication, presentation and IT skills.

Please note: We are open to considering secondments for this post!

The hours are full-time and the contract duration is 2 years.
