MANCHESTER’S TECH SCENE JUST GOT EVEN MORE EXCITING

GCHQ is the government’s appointed expert in cyber security. Every hour of every day, we’re working to protect the UK. It's about keeping our society safe, secure and successful. From terrorists to hackers, fraudsters, and organised criminal gangs, the online threats we encounter are many, varied and increasingly sophisticated. So we've always got to be one step ahead.

Here at our newest site in Greater Manchester, we’re looking for highly talented, ambitious and experienced senior software engineers - people who are ready to solve the unsolvable, and develop unbreakable systems. Show us that you’ve mastered C++ or Java, and we’ll put your valuable skills to work, leading the development of complex software products and teams to help safeguard the UK from cyber threats.

We work with Java, C, C++ and Python, as well as cloud and distributed programming technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL. You’ll contribute to the fast-paced development of high quality code that’s robust enough to last years, rather than months, either directly or by leading, mentoring and developing software teams.

At times, you’ll be under pressure to deliver conflicting priorities. But you’ll be great at context switching, getting up to speed quickly, and choosing the right tools for the job. You’ll also be comfortable assessing and releasing code quickly, rather than crafting the perfect solution. In return, you’ll benefit from a unique environment where you’ll be exposed to technologies you simply wouldn’t find anywhere else.

Ideally, you’ll have a relevant technology-related degree, or equivalent experience and the ability to lead technical teams. With C++ and Java skills you’ll enjoy taking on challenging software problems and will be comfortable using a variety of languages. Crucially, you’ll combine an engineering mindset with the tenacity and perseverance to stay ahead of the latest technologies.

To apply you must be a British citizen. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our work and welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
