Role summary

Ordnance Survey has a world-renowned reputation for the quality and accuracy of its authoritative geospatial information. Our intelligent location data is used by business and government to underpin decision making, drive growth and deliver valuable efficiencies. As part of our drive to continuously improve and strengthen our capability we are looking for a Front-End Web Developer / Software Engineer to join one of the Solutions Engineering teams, you will play a proactive role in helping to deliver web applications for B2B and B2G customers.

You will have experience as a key member in high performing Agile teams and a proven track record of delivery, underpinned with excellent software engineering practices such as TDD. Specifically you:

- Have a proven track record of front-end development and can code JavaScript without reliance purely on frameworks

- Have experience developing with frameworks such as Backbone.js, Ember.js and AngularJS

- Can write clean production quality JavaScript code

- Have experience building high traffic complex cross-browser applications based on JavaScript/jQuery/AJAX with SASS/CSS3/HTML5

- Have experience in building RESTful interfaces to handle data in XML and JSON formats

- Have an in-depth understanding of JavaScript patterns/styles including both modular and object-oriented development

- Have an understanding of modern HTML design concepts such as Responsive Design

- Have experience developing against Internet and Infrastructure Security principles

- Have experience with Continuous Integration tools including Jenkins and JavaScript Automation tools such as Grunt

- Have a good knowledge in the use of testing tools and frameworks such as JsUnit, JsMockito, JsMock, Jasmine

- May have geospatial development knowledge which would include Google Maps, Leaflet and OpenLayers

You will need to demonstrate your track record against the following essential criteria and competencies:

- Proven track record in iterative and incremental development in an agile environment

- Experience in contribution towards best fit technical options to ensure effective delivery

- Knowledge of industry technology developments

- Some exposure to coaching and mentoring team members to improve agile team delivery

- Proficient skills in software engineering and best practice, including design patterns
