Full-Stack Developer - 2024

We‘re on the lookout for a Full-Stack Developer to join our growing team!

As a Full-Stack Developer at Brand42, you'll become a fundamental part of our close-knit studio, working collaboratively with the design and development team whilst leading a range of projects.

About Brand42

Brand42 is an award-winning independent branding and digital design agency in the heart of London. Since we opened our doors in 2004 we have worked with global news and entertainment giants, finance and ESG pioneers; as well as innovative product startups and humble family-run food and drink producers.

We pride ourselves in our approach to briefs by finding the right question, to deliver the right solution. Our ethos is grounded in big ideas driving transformative and effective design. And although we are small in size, we are big in character; with a passion for creativity, inventive work, and importantly having fun along the way.

The Role

Being part of a collaborative creative agency, you will be involved in all stages of a project - including opportunities to contribute creatively and technically throughout. We're technologyagnostic so we're not tied to a particular stack, which means we select the right solution on a project-by-project basis. With this in mind, we are always on the lookout for new technologies and digital trends which can help bring the team's creative ideas to life.

You'll be responsible for delivering well-crafted digital experiences and building solid infrastructures - we want you to have pride in your work. The role entails learning new technologies quickly, effectively troubleshooting issues, and implementing best practices. We are looking for someone with an interest in design, keeping an eye on the fine design details when implementing. You'll be responsible for mentoring and inspiring the development team with a solution-orientated approach. And as we are a small team, having the ability to work under pressure when required is helpful! You may also be included in client and stakeholder meetings to support technical requests.

This is a mid-senior role and while you don't need any specific qualifications, 5+ years of relevant professional experience is a must.

Skills

Front-End:

  • Proficient in cross-browser and responsive development;
  • Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to craft visually appealing and intuitive user interfaces, or accurately and reliably implementing a design specification.
  • Extensive experience with React and/or Vue, empowering dynamic and responsive web applications using frameworks like Next.js and Nuxt.
  • Expertise in implementing UI/UX best practices, ensuring seamless navigation and user friendly interactions.
  • Skilful in using browser dev tools to quickly debug applications and network communications.
  • Strong understanding of front-end optimisation techniques to ensure swift loading and optimal performance.

Back-End & DevOps:

  • Proficient in writing Javascript (Typescript a bonus) for server-side applications, including languages such as Node.js and PHP (in some cases) facilitating robust back-end functionality.
  • Solid experience utilising RESTful APIs to connect front-end applications with back-end systems.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases such as MariaDB, including schema design and eff icient indexing, and previous use of abstraction libraries such as Prisma.
  • Experience in configuring and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS, optimising application performance and scalability.
  • Extensive experience using Git for version control, specifically its CLI and a capability to resolve merge conflicts properly (and roll them back if you don't).
  • Solid understanding of DNS and security certification, with the ability to configure new services for domains with knowledge of what might cause interruptions to existing services.
  • Experience of continuous deployment platforms such as Netlify.

Extra:

  • Ability to transition between projects in response to client requirements, often with a different stack, and sometimes with different workflows, team sizes and review requirements.
  • Quick learner, embracing new technologies and frameworks with enthusiasm to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving web landscape.
  • An understanding of the balance of what is right for the client from a cost/ maintainability perspective vs what is right for the developer from a beauty/efficiency/ excitement perspective.
  • Effective problem solver, adept at troubleshooting and debugging to deliver impeccable web solutions.

Beneficial but Not Essential

  • Experience working in an agency in a client-facing role and environment;
  • Involvement in Open Source projects;
  • Practical knowledge of OOP in any language;
  • Experience in leading a development team;

Benefits

  • 20 days holiday a year, plus bank holidays;
  • An extra day of annual leave for every year of service - up to 5 years;
  • Summer & Christmas Parties;
  • Day off on your Birthday;
  • Opportunities to go to talks and events.
