Job title: Engineer - Support Engineering (Technical Publications)

Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing input/support to the Project Leader to aid in the production and management of Training Aid Books (TAB) and Composite Diagrams (CD)
  • Constructing procedural documents for all classes of UK submarines, both in-service and future platforms
  • Producing manuals for the operation of all systems and equipment, including hotel services, weapons, combat systems and propulsion systems
  • Being responsible for Verification and Validation of TABs, CDs
  • Working alongside other ILS teams to provide support and interpretation of Technical Information from external suppliers and the Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP)
  • Interpreting technical data including (but not limited to) drawings, manufacturers handbooks and design safety justifications for the production of Training Aid Books and Composite Diagrams

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Either Electrical, Mechanical or illustrator background experience (preferable time served person)
  • Ability to work with multiple and varied sources of information to create TABs and CDs to a common specification
  • NC/HC Certificate in Electrical, Mechanical or illustration Engineering or equivalent level of qualification or experience
  • Experience in a Technical Authoring Role
  • Experience of working within an engineering environment

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a Technical Publications/ILS team or similar environment
  • Competent with Microsoft products to a level applicable to the role, especially Word, Access and Excel
  • Full understanding of the use of user guides and standards relating to illustration production
  • Working knowledge of Broadvision Quicksilver or equivalent experience using an illustration software package such as IsoDraw or Adobe Illustrator
  • Understanding of ILS (Integrated Logistic Support) processes

The Technical Publications team:

As an Engineer - Technical Author, you will be working for a team responsible for creation of Technical Publications within the larger Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) department utilising (and improving) existing Technical Documentation production processes. This enables the end user to support, maintain and operate the submarine. You will also play a pivotal role in the transition from hard copy to computerised documentation.

This role will provide on the job training and a development plan offering great opportunities to be part of succession plan in an ever growing ILS department, working on multiple long term projects.
