GeoData, Geography and Environment, University of Southampton
Software Engineer - Web Applications Developer
GeoData, part of the School of Geography and Environmental Science, University of Southampton, are seeking to appoint a Software Engineer with PHP, MySQL, CSS, Javascript, HTML, Python, GIT, Docker and Linux skills who will principally work on the development of Web Applications and be involved in all stages of the project lifecycle.
Typical applications vary from database interfaces to web mapping applications using spatial data, working for a range of customers within academia, industry and government.
Suitable candidates will have a computing or software development qualification (or equivalent experience). You must be able to demonstrate knowledge in the application of web development and data management technologies. You must have good analytical and problem solving skills.
The position offers the opportunity to work with spatial data and web maps, so an interest in developing skills in this area, or existing skills, would be useful.
The position would be suitable for anyone from a recent graduate to a more experienced developer, as appropriate training would be given to less experienced candidates.
The position is offered on a full-time, 3-year fixed-term basis in the first instance, with an aim for it to be extended or made permanent, subject to funding. It offers 30 days' holiday and bank holidays plus 6 additional "University days" and an excellent pension. We operate a hybrid working system, as we recognise and value the importance of personal interaction in the workplace.
Informal enquiries may be made to Jason Sadler via email.
Application Procedure
The application deadline is midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need assistance, call or email Recruitment. Quote the advert reference on all correspondence.
