Associate Finance Data Analyst

Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - and connect independent producers, suppliers and corporate off-takers in the wholesale energy markets.

We are recruiting for an Associate Finance Data Analyst to work within our commodity trading business focused on providing support to the Finance Managers to create value by improving the quality of data for reporting and ensure delivery of the highest financial benefit at an acceptable level of risk. The role will ensure the provision of robust financial data structures and outputs for reporting, analysis, planning and forecasts to the business and Group. The role will work as part of the core finance teams, facilitating interaction and knowledge transfer where required between the technology, data and wider finance teams.

This is a role in which we are able to develop highly skilled accountants with expert data capabilities. There will be a significant amount of training and development in both accounting and data science.

Location - London

The Role:

  • Ensure correct data in the reporting platform.

  • Develop prototypes of reconciliations and reporting for financial control, product control and business facing reporting and control needs.

  • Develop deep understanding of data flows from trading platform through to group reporting.

  • Assist in the design and development of optimal reporting solutions.

  • Ensure alignment of dashboarding, reconciliation and reporting data usage with finance

  • Maintain clear self-service data environment for use by wider finance teams.

  • Support Product Owner in prioritisation of IT enhancements.

  • Develop full understanding of trade lifecycle and bookings.

  • Develop deep understanding of product control, financial control and planning and analysis processes and data needs.

  • Develop complete understanding of existing reporting dashboards and processes.

  • Willingness to undertake accounting qualifications.

The Person

  • Bachelor's degree within finance, economics or similar

  • Analytical skills and proficient in Excel

  • Focused on accuracy and details regarding data for interfaces, APIs, journals, trade details, meta data and pricing data.

  • Able to work efficiently in a dynamic environment and be comfortable managing multiple tasks at once.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver on strict deadline.

  • Focussed on operational risks and the role you play to minimize incidents.

  • Keen to develop expertise in energy trading across UK, and EU markets.

  • Interest in developing data science tools and approaches.

  • Ability to interact across the organisation.

  • Able to initiate better controls and faster working methods.
