Automation Test Engineer

Location:  Gloucestershire

Clearance: High level of clearance required (DV - Developed Vetting)

The Role:

We currently have a vacancy for an Automation Test Engineer to join a multi-disciplined Scrum Team to work on a multi-year transformation programme for our client, developing complex applications in a high assurance environment.  The engineer will be responsible for development and maintenance of automation test scripts and test reporting using both industry standard automation test suites and custom developed frameworks within a fully operational test system. The testing process will follow an agile development and release process that supports critical customer mission goals around National Security using manual and automated testing techniques and tools.

 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work independently and as part of a team.

 

What will I be doing?

 

  • Responsible for the creation of test plans, procedures and reports detailing the test process and infrastructure to appropriately assess that products/deliverables meet defined requirements.
  • Work independently, or with a team of software and systems engineers; must be knowledgeable in industry-standard testing tools and methodologies.
  • Responsible for briefing the customer on any Test reviews - TRR / TER.
  • Use custom built automated test tools and operate in a secure environment.
  • Implementing an appropriate Test Automation framework, integrated with CI/CD pipeline tools, with test results integrated back into JIRA.
  • Supporting Software Developers in automating Unit and Component Tests.
  • Maintaining the baseline of automated tests each sprint.
  • Edit and run automated test scripts; create automated and manual test scripts for processes that are not yet automated.
  • Contribute to the scrum teams, participate in daily scrums, and be proactive on work tasks and obstacle resolution.
  • Must be a dynamic, innovative, self-starting problem solver that can operate with minimal supervision.

 

What skills does Leidos need from me?

  • Good understanding of the Testing Lifecycle and the different types of testing such as Functional and Integration Testing.
  • Experience of creating Test Cases based on requirements and design documents.
  • Experience in conducting manual tests.
  • Experience with Test Automation frameworks (e.g. Katalon Studio, Selenium, Cucumber, SoapUI, Junit, DART, or similar) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Agile workload management and bug tracking (e.g. Jira, BitBucket, Xray/Zephyr or similar).
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of scripting and/or programming (e.g., Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Assembly, etc.).
  • Experience working in a regulated testing environment and Agile teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - ability to communicate with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Self-motivated and willing to speak to colleagues to find out missing information.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, troubleshooting attitude with a willingness to learn new technologies.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Working with large-scale and complex integration programmes.
  • Experience of working on secure Government, or MoD IT projects and programmes.
  • Performance testing and measurement of integrated systems.
  • Organizing/supporting user acceptance testing (UAT) prior to Production deployment.
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery tools.
  • Negative testing concepts and risk assessment reporting.
  • Code equality scans (e.g., SonarQube).

 

Other:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree: A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional membership of BCS or IET  

 

Clearance Requirements:

  • Due to the nature of this position, we require you to be eligible to achieve DV clearance. As a result, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the UK for the last 10 years.
