The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office are seeking a Deputy Director Live Services on a permanent basis.

The FCDO's enduring purpose as a department is "to lead the Government's diplomatic, development and consular work around the world". We employ more than 17,000 staff in 168 countries, across our diplomatic and development offices worldwide, including in 280 overseas Embassies and High Commissions.  Our UK-based staff work in our headquarters: King Charles Street, London and Abercrombie House, East Kilbride, and we also have staff based in Milton Keynes.

This role reports to the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) and will be a member of the Information and Digital Directorate (IDD) senior leadership team, supporting the CDIO with the collective leadership and transformation of the Directorate.

As Deputy Director Live Services, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a large and diverse team of direct and indirect reports, including members of virtual teams and suppliers. Your team is dispersed in the UK and worldwide, and you must be able to deliver high quality work through them. The postholder will line manage 5, oversee a team of c.60 and be responsible for an operational Admin budget of c.£100m.

This role is critical to FCDO's ambition to deliver a step change in the service management responsibility. In addition to establishing and upholding key internal relationships, you will engage and manage key stakeholder relationships with Government Departments and Agencies who use FCDO's IT platform around the world as well as with the IT suppliers who contribute to delivering our services.

In addition to holding British Citizenship (for security purposes and to obtain DV clearance), applicants should demonstrate their skills and experience against the following essential criteria in their CV and supporting statement:

Strong leadership qualities: proven ability to understand and apply best practice in maturing IT service management functions, inspiring a culture of technical excellence and process discipline

Proven experience of IT service management in different environments including a distributed global organisation, and complex IT project and portfolio management

Demonstrated ability to source and manage a multi-IT supplier structure; enabling successful strategic partnering while holding suppliers to account for high quality outputs and continually optimising performance

A strong understanding of operational risk within technology services, and of how to identify, measure and mitigate such risk

A broad understanding of the impact of technology on businesses and Government departments, including how to tailor technologies and security to meet organisation requirements

Comfortable working at senior levels including CEO equivalents (board level)

If successful you must hold, or be willing to obtain, security clearance to DV level. All offers of appointment will be subject to achieving DV level clearance. You must have been resident in the UK for five out of the last ten years immediately prior to your application.
