We are currently looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join our team and help us deliver quality software solutions that are fit for use and purpose. This role is hybrid but could be based in our Manchester city centre or Whitley (Yorkshire) office.

What will you be doing in this role?

As a Lead Backend Engineer at Tunstall, you will be leading a development team, with a range of experience, delivering high quality software. A proven track record of delivering software for organisations where time to market, quality and rapid change are critical to the company's success is a must.

The Ideal candidate:

As a Senior/Lead Backend Developer at Tunstall you will be a thought leader, a practitioner and an advocate of state-of-the-art API and Cloud engineering practices. Together with your team you will research, evaluate, promote, and help embed new engineering, delivery and collaboration practices and approaches. You will continuously improve how the team works and its output.

To be successful in this role, you will be a great coach and motivator, constantly helping people in the team to develop and stay at the forefront of their area of expertise, including helping our cohorts of apprentices/grads develop their skills and career with Tunstall. You will also have a hunger for continuous improvement and innovation.

Any experience of working within a business moving from Legacy to modern systems and working with cloud micro services using Microsoft and / or mobile applications would be desirable, but not essential.

Key skills and experience:

Passionate about building a great consumer product that our customers will love

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to help build/grow high performing teams and drive software engineering best practices

A commitment to driving production of quality software by adhering to proven practices and methodologies (TDD and Unit Testing)

Experience of Agile Methodologies and frameworks like Scrum / Kanban / SAFe

Proven experience of working with some of the following technologies C# / .NET Core / .NET 6 / MS SQL / Azure / HTML / CSS / JavaScript / Angular / React

Mobile technologies (Android/iOS/Hybrid) also desirable but not essential

Good working knowledge of cloud Microservices ideally using MS technologies / Azure / Serverless Environment / Docker Containers / Kubernetes

Good working knowledge of some of the following: asynchronous processing, message/service buses and APIs/Integrations

Experience of automated CI/CD pipelines, Git, and unit test frameworks
