Technical Lead

Job purpose:

Lead a team of multi-discipline engineers working, supporting and transforming our core business systems. Working primarily with our Windows based, SQL Server application stack, helping to maintain it whilst working with wider teams to transition us onto newer stack. You will be reporting to and working with the Engineering Manager, hiring, mentoring and developing a high performing team delivering at pace. When you are not developing you will be communicating team progress, documenting technical decisions and communicating them to your peers and technical leadership, as well as helping plan our way onto our modern GCP stack. This role would suit someone with extensive experience in Windows, SQL Server, application maintenance, who also wants to transition into a Cloud native, devops focused role over time. Training will be provided as well as learning from experts across the business to make this transition over the next year.

Key responsibilities and main duties

Technical

* Help maintain existing application tech stack, whilst assisting transition to Cloud

* Working with DBA's to support, maintain and transform Database

* Maintenance and amends of core CRM system in .Net (VB.net and C#)

* Familiarity with Windows Server, inc. IIS, Windows Services, IIS Security

* CI/CD experience using Jenkins and Octopus

* Release management and planning

* Experience with APM and system health monitoring

* Familiarity with Cloud native architectures, EDD

* Produce technical design documentation of existing and future products and services

* Plan and implement robust testing strategies with QA leads

* Help maintain existing application tech stack, whilst assisting transition to Cloud

* Working with DBA's to maintain and transform Database

* Full Development Lifecycle Ownership

People management

* Holiday/Absence management

* Mentor the developers to support them with delivering against personal, team goals & initiatives

* Work with the Engineering Managers to feed into talent development and performance reviews

* Occasionally assist with the recruitment of new engineers

* Onboard new members of your team

Team Management

* Oversee the team and help remove impediments

* Provide and support team members in the facilitation of agile ceremonies

* Present the team's progress to stakeholders and the wider engineering department

Working in partnership

* Align best practices and technical standards with technical leaders across the engineering department

* Work closely with the product managers to define solutions

* Collaborate with engineers across disciplines (Testing, UX, Platform etc...) and seek their support to shape your team and product area for success.

* Work closely with PPMO and Engineering Director on Transformation plan

Decisions

* Influence technical decisions, designs to meet the business requirements

* Influence process improvements

* Recruitment and talent development in your team

Required skills and experience

* Strong SQL Server - ability to work with DBA, e.g. indexes, understanding locks

* Strong .Net (C# and some VB.net)

* Familiarity with Windows Server, inc. IIS, Windows Services, IIS Security

* CI/CD experience using Jenkins and Octopus

* Release management and planning

* Experience with APM and system health monitoring

* Experience working as part of an Agile / Scrum team

* Ability to mentor your peers, from juniors to seniors

* Strong code-review skills

* Problem solving is fun for you!

Nice to have skills and experience

* GCP/ Azure / AWS Experience

* Exposure to NoSQL and event-based architectures

* Alerting & Monitoring

* Some experience with ID Server or Auth providers

* APM, logging, SEQ, Datadog
