This is a full-time role on site with a competitive salary and attractive benefits The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is looking for a highly motivated Head of IT. The role holder will be responsible for the IT function for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and ABDO College which will include reviewing and updating our IT strategy, servicing computer systems and software, overseeing equipment purchasing and installation, computer networks and user connectivity and maintain excellent relationships with internal users and external service providers. The head of IT will have the key skills to lead and manage ABDO's IT function and be able to: Develop the strategy for ABDO's new IT department and take full ownership of the ABDO IT estate to allow the Association to meet its strategic aims. Oversee the development and running of the IT department with recruitment and line management responsibility for IT support, motivating and developing staff. Ensure the safety and uptime of the ABDO environment. Proactively propose, define and manage plans to regularly update and upgrade software and hardware, networking and connectivity across the estate. Organise support, troubleshooting, and repair for IT equipment and networks when needed, managing and coordinating urgent and complicated support issues, work through onsite problems from point of arrival to satisfactory conclusion. Oversee information security and maintain network and user security through hardware or software installation or education. Oversee the monitoring of online security for users and networks and take appropriate steps to address security breaches if necessary. Ensure all users benefit from effective technology and efficient Internet access, and continually assess needs and requirements, coordinating IT support, training, and orientation for all users. Develop and maintain emergency plans to address equipment, power, or security failure to preserve technology and data. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with external service providers. Understand available technology and stay on top of innovation in IT equipment and solutions. Track inventory and status for hardware and software throughout the organisation. Work within departmental budget and track spending. Technical requirements: Strong experience and knowledge of M365 application suite Expertise in T-Sql, experience using and creating custom views, managing data and experience using SOAP and REST APIs and work with ABDO's database consultant Experience in cyber essentials, PCI DSS, GDPR It is desirable that the post holder has expertise in IT demands for a membership and education body or not for profit. 35 hours per week, normally worked between 9am and 5pm, Monday - Friday at the ABDO/ABDO College site in Godmersham, Kent.  Flexibility will be required. Salary:

The role is based in Godmersham, Kent, where public transport is limited. The employee will be required to support IT at a number of locations across the estate. Due to the nature of the role, the employee may be required to travel to other locations within the UK. ABDO also has an office in Birmingham and the postholder will need to attend there as required. Office environment:
It is a no smoking office, with limited access to some parts of the building for someone who is not able to use stairs.
