Premier Group are currently engaged with a large established client in the Birmingham area, who require a Senior Database Engineer to join their growing team. You will manage databases through the entire product lifecycle.
The successful Senior Database Engineer will configure and maintain database servers to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. You will mentor database engineers, review existing and implement new solutions to meet business needs.
Senior Database Engineer - Responsibilities:
Ensures the highest levels of systems and database availability through best practices design and implementationEnforces system and database configuration standards through documentation and automation for lower-level support teamsTranslates high-level design documentation into low-level database design for implementationPerforms advanced technical analysis and recommends database purchases and upgrades as neededProvides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementationsTracks issues and business requests, and researches broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needsProvides third level technical support of core database and business systems; often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter expertsInvestigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutionsCommunicates resolution back to team members and business usersWrites scripts/programs to automate builds, standardize deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other database administration functionsBuilds databases per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business ownersReviews database performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs to be based on trendsFollow all set procedures and policies about the Change Management system
Senior Database Engineer - Requirements:
8+ years of related enterprise database experienceDatabase management in both physical & virtual environmentsImplement AlwaysOn Availability Groups, High Availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server (Log Shipping, Replication, and Mirroring)Microsoft Azure SQL Databases, Managed Instances and Azure IaaSMonitoring and performance tuning along with an understanding of how to read execution plansWindows Server 2012 and later editionsWorking with T-SQL, BCP, DTS, and SSIS development and Windows ServersKnowledge and experience of deployment, automation and configuration management technologiesSnowflake administration and data ingestion technologies, SnowSQLSystems and Application Monitoring tools
