Senior Cloud Engineer OpportunitySalary 55-80k/yearLocation: Remote or Hybrid working GlasgowPurpose of the role:To provide technical leadership to optimise the performance of the SThree cloud infrastructure estate, including the adoption of tools techniques and processes (with a heavy emphasis on automation) for the management of systems and services in a distributed environment through scripting.The Senior Cloud Engineer owns the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated cloud infrastructure components and services through to decommissioning.The role aligns service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards, ensuring that operational procedures and documentation are fit for purpose and kept up to date and that operational issues are identified, recorded, monitored, resolved and reported upon.

Key Responsibilities

Operations/control· Provides technical leadership to optimise the performance of IT infrastructure.

Monitoring and reporting· Ensures that operational issues are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers.

Operational procedures· Aligns all operations procedures to service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards. Ensures that operational procedures and documentation are fit for purpose and kept up to date.

Maintenance and installation· Oversees the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure components and infrastructure-based services. Defines safety and security procedures to be followed, and delegates tasks at the appropriate level.

Incident management· Reviews incidents and breaches of service level agreements. Reports on findings and initiates improvement actions.

Automation tools· Investigates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and services.

Problem management· Conducts investigations of significant operational outage and provides recommendations for problem mitigation. Initiates reviews of infrastructure performance to surface and resolve problems and build infrastructure resilience.

Service levels· Ensures that the IT infrastructure team meet Service or Operational Level Agreements. Reports and presents service level information to stakeholders. Reviews service level information and reports to stakeholders. Recommends appropriate action.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:· Strong system administration (Linux/Unix, Windows, SQL)· In depth understanding of cloud security best practices.· Transformation of legacy on prem service to cloud services PAAS, SAAS, IAAS, including container services, Kubernetes, Docker etc· Extensive experience with templates and other configurable items to enable automation.· Familiarity of automation tooling such as Terraform, CHEF, Puppet etc· Experience of DevOPS CICD piplelines· Familiarity with deployment techniques (and tools) in a distributed environment.· Experienced in monitoring techniques in a dynamic environment.· Design of self-healing and fault-tolerant services.· Understanding of stateless and loosely coupled distributed applications.· Familiarity developing with RESTful API interfaces.· Understanding of relational and non-relational databases.· Familiarity with messaging and queuing services.· Experienced with Infrastructure as Code: design and security, configuration management, integration, deployment, performance monitoring and tuning, automation of infrastructure.· Strong scripting skillset, with a working knowledge of one or more high-level programming languages (C#, Java, PHP, Ruby, Python, Powershell etc.).· Multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
