WHAT TO EXPECT:

The Validation Methods and Reliability Engineer is a member of the DV team who is primarily responsible for monitoring and tracking the reliability for power unit programmes and deriving improved validation methods to further substantiate unit test plans. The role includes derivation of measurement systems, data analysis, process and standardisation in support of unit validation activity. The Validation Methods and Reliability Engineer should work in cross functional collaboration within the Engineering and Quality functions, to ensure all validation methods and processes are aligned to meet internal customer requirements efficiently, and to ensure a reliable & high-quality product is delivered to our external customers.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

Maintain a meaningful set of KPI's for reliability performance throughout a unit programme and report against progress.
Provide reliability design and process guidelines based on field findings and maintain a knowledge base of reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement.
Support continuous improvement activity including creation and maintenance of company standards relevant to role
Interface with departmental customers effectively. Lead interaction with customers and suppliers, resolving any conflicts and ensuring appropriate escalation of issues for resolution as necessary.
Use reliability engineering principles to support Design Validation (DV) process for unit programme gateways.
Support relevant technical reviews and issue resolution for reliability issues through established processes and standard tools with major focus on a data driven approach.
Consulting and approval of test deviations whilst owning and maintaining test deviation database.
Conduct in-depth Life Data Analyses (e.g. Weibull) in order to support investigations.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Essential:
Strong technical background with some knowledge of power unit engineering, components and systems.
Some experience of automotive component/system design and validation.
An understanding of design principles and the application of quality tools within a product engineering environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels within business.
Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline.
Able to prioritise & derive workload and lead key responsibilities both individually and contribute/lead a cross-functional team.
Knowledge of problem solving, and quality tools is essential, together with a structured, logical and objective based approach to all aspects of their role.
Highly self-motivated and able to act on initiative.
Some experience and proficiency in data processing.

Desirable:
In depth understanding of physics of failure found in automotive powertrain systems.
Ability to apply mathematical tools as a part of statistical data analysis (i.e. formal 6 Sigma qualification).
Good working knowledge of Product Creation Delivery System (or similar process).
Understanding of automotive powertrain design architecture in an automotive engineering environment.
Knowledge of the ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA, and xFMEA.
Good understanding of reliability statistics including Weibull Analysis.
Knowledge of reliability warranty analysis and reliability prediction methods, including parametric and non-parametric methods.
Knowledge of reliability growth techniques, such as Duane, Crow-AMSAA and Crow Extended.
ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer.
Ability to coach the team, inspire technical curiosity and depth of understand to raise the overall proficiency of the team.
