Summary

Our IT department provides an end-to-end service to a wide range of internal customers, encompassing IT development, delivery, and support. We are a key element in the successful growth and expansion of Wessex Water Group, across both our regulated and commercial businesses.

With this in mind, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software Developer to join our successful Software Development team to help us maintain, create and deliver integrated IT solutions which underpin the operation of the Wessex Water Group.

What does the job involve?

As a Software Developer, you'll work with a diverse range of customers across the Group to help design, develop, test and deploy software, and support and maintain integrated IT solutions.

This is a busy role, developing and keeping a wide range of critical business systems operating. You'll have valuable expertise in business software development, the Azure software stack, Biztalk, systems integration, and web services management, and ideally experience of build and deployment automation.

To do this, you'll be working with system architects to establish and maintain standards and produce high quality deliverables. You'll be an expert in programming methods and tools and will conduct software tests, correcting defects, and re-testing as necessary.

Your technical experience is extremely important to us. However, we can offer exciting development opportunities on the systems/software that you may not be familiar with.

What do I need?

To really succeed within this role, you will be a proactive individual, who has sound communication skills, who is able to work effectively within a team environment, as well as independently.

You'll have significant experience of a range of systems and software including Visual Studio, .NET Core/Framework v4.*, C#, WCF, MVC, ASP.net, Team Foundation Server, Azure DevOps, Integration Services, Rest APIs, Micro Services, Git and Windows Services.

An understanding of SQL Server, T-SQL and database design would be desirable, and equally, knowledge of Azure, Octopus Deploy and BizTalk would be advantageous.

Good experience and understanding of both Waterfall and Agile project methodologies is essential.

It is important to have an aptitude for learning, specifically with an interest in Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) and an understanding of deployment pipelines would be favourable. Part of the role from time to time will also require candidates to investigate older applications to diagnose and offer support to legacy software.
