Your role

The role of the Project Director is to direct the case management solution (CMS) project and provide leadership to the delivery team. The Project Director is responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and workstream objectives are achieved within the agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. The Project Director has a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.

The CMS project is a major undertaking for the IOPC and will look to replace the current legacy case management solution, which is no longer considered fit for purpose. The CMS is central to all operational work and should co-ordinate investigative and casework activity and recording all case data and documentation. It will be used by a large proportion of the organisation and is considered a critical application. The procurement and development of the system is a significant investment for the organisation. The Project Director role has been developed to ensure that the project has the right senior leadership and direction.

This is a senior role and the successful candidate will be expected to liaise and communicate with Directors, Deputy Directors General, and the Director General.

About the IOPC

As a totally independent body, not part of the police or government, we oversee the police complaints system in England and Wales. As well as setting the standards the police should apply when handling complaints, we investigate and make decisions on some of the UK's most sensitive cases, including where police action may have led to death or serious injury.

Changing and improving

Making effective decisions

Communicating and influencing

Delivering at pace

Working Conditions

Making the IOPC a great place to work is one of our key priorities. Operating during COVID has been challenging as our workforce worked from home, but it also provided opportunities for innovation and new ways of doing things. Pre-COVID we offered flexible ways of working. As we move out of COVID restrictions in line with the Government plan, we've started to focus on how we will work in the future. We're listening to feedback from our workforce, to build on positive working practices adopted during COVID, and using this opportunity to improve the service we deliver.

We assure future employees joining he IOPC that we will be adopting a hybrid way of working, with the opportunity to work in a regional office as well as from home. We will continue to work from home whilst the government guidance remains in place to do so, attending the office only when a task or activity cannot be completed from home.

Additional information

The IOPC is not eligible to participate in the Civil Service transfer process, therefore successful candidates will not be able to transfer to the IOPC on their existing terms and conditions.

Any move to Independent Office for Police Conduct from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments. You may however be eligible for other government schemes, including Tax Free Childcare. Determine your eligibility at https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

Although we are currently unable to guarantee a longer or more permanent contract, if the role can be extended or made permanent, the successful post holder may be offered the role firstly without further interview.

Be yourself.

The diversity of our staff is one of our key strengths. We welcome applications regardless of age, gender identity, disability, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, sex, marital or civil partnership status, parental status, religion or belief.

We're building a culture where difference is valued. Be a part of it.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore a standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out for the successful candidate during the pre-employment process
