The Met Office is recruiting for a number of Junior IT Engineers based at our Exeter HQ.

As our Junior IT Engineer, the starting salary will be £23673.00 with opportunities to progress to £26119.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

This role attracts a market forces supplement of £1,125 per annum paid quarterly, pro-rated from the date of taking up the appointment to 31 March 2022 - this scheme is currently under review.

Our total reward package is potentially worth up to £35,167 per annum, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus, employer pension contributions.

We operate hybrid working. That means 40% of your time will be in office to work collaboratively with colleagues, and 60% deciding with your manager what works best for you. If that means working from home we will support you to do so; and if you work better together with colleagues then you can choose to work in our extraordinary office for up to 100% of the time. Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Technical Skills: Enthusiasm for IT, with demonstrable ability in at least one of the following technical domains

Software Development / Coding

AWS or other major Cloud Platform

Windows / Linux Administration

Database Administration / Development

ServiceNow or other similar platform

Problem Solving: Fast learner with an aptitude for quickly understanding and solving technical problems. Knows when to seek help if no progress is being made

Enthusiasm: Driven, enthusiastic and delivery focused.

Communication and Collaboration: Adept at communicating and collaborating with customers, colleagues, and peers

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Experience with AWS. Especially automation and infrastructure as code

Experience administering, developing or querying relational databases

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.
