The DevOps Specialist will be part of a multi-disciplined team defining and building solutions to automate day-to-day processes with a view of providing platforms that are more efficient for users. The candidate must help drive improvements to processes and help design automated enhancements with a view of continual improvement. The role is centred on an agile DevOps mind-set and requires a wide range of technical skills. The candidate will work closely with a wide variety of teams to: Have appreciation of production readiness and work with teams to understand user requirementsWork to a set of prioritised tasks ensuring regular updates ensuring the target solution remains the key focusUnderstand phased delivery to ensure work is completed to a defined specification and scheduleHelp identify efficiencies in processes and contribute to their automationThoroughly test automated processes ensuring they are robust and meet requirementsContribute to medium and high scale technical projects by contributing to architecture review and design, upgrading and migrating application systems to new platforms.Provide feedback and propose solutions to management on performance, capacity and design issuesDocument designs and architectures and distribute minutes and meeting actions The DevOps Specialist will also work with other teams to respond to incidents and resolve issues promptly, often under pressure, to restore normal services to the business. Therefore, ability to be on call and provide support out of hours may be required.Candidates must possess the aptitude and desire to learn new technologies and contribute ideas to technologies researched that may be of benefit to the department. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role. He/she must be experienced in providing multi-disciplined technical support as part of a team, and have practical knowledge of performance and capacity management from an application, database and network perspective as well as strong aptitude for automation. They must have a strong DevOps mind-set and be prepared to work across both dev and production teams with a view of automation and self-service platforms.ProfileIn order to succed in the role it is important you are familiar and passionate about the following key technologies required. Role Specific Technical Skills - Must HaveExpert knowledge in source code management including Bitbucket and SVN.Automation - Expertise of automated test and release cycles and server automation tools such as Ansible, BladeLogic, Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket, and integration with security vaultsExpert knowledge in CI/CD, Jenkins in particular, with good infra experience in both building the platform as well as creating and configuring pipelines as a userExperience in migrations from legacy platforms to new solutions ensuring technology evolution is maintainedExpert knowledge in Docker and Kubernetes, not only as a user but admin and infrastructure designKnowledge of programming and scripting methodologies and demonstrable proficiency in writing code in one or more of the following languages; Python, Ansible, Groovy, ShellSystem administration - In-depth knowledge in Linux/Unix and good knowledge on Windows systemsGood general understanding of global infrastructure, firewalls and networking and considerations in these areas.Networks - Good understanding of network principals and practical knowledge of load balancing technologiesUnderstanding of user and server authentication enabling end to end automated release cycles whilst ensuring security is a primary considerationUnderstand of cloud based platforms and solutions and delivery of PAAS solutions Desirable IT SkillsSecurity - Knowledge of and API interaction with Cyberark or Hashicorp VaultBuild Tools -Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket and CI platformsDatabases - exposure to or skills in SQL Server, Oracle and noSQL DBsMonitoring and log management - Geneos, Splunk, XpoLog, ELKUnderstanding of application lifecycle and Agile methodologyGood tasks management, prioritisation, risk managementAppreciation of production processes, including change and release management Job OfferAn initial 6 month contract with likely extensions. day rate is between £600- £700 (Inside IR35) depending on experience.
