AI & ML Technologists works closely with technology team members and stakeholders across our organisation to initiate and develop new innovative projects, seek R&D funding, work with our corporate partners and help startups. Technologists work includes open innovation programmes, building pilots, test environments and trials to accelerate the deployment of new technologies and business models. We aim to make a difference to the UK economy by helping companies accelerate, as well as leading on cutting-edge innovation projects with partners across the commercial and academic world.

What You'll Do

Contribute to Digital Catapult's technical strategy and direction in cooperation with key team members

Contribute to the ongoing technical requirements to enable execution of Digital Catapult's strategy

Initiation and preparation and the subsequent delivery of collaborative R&D funding proposals/projects

Initiation, preparation and subsequent delivery of proposals to commercial customers within the UK

Work closely with the business development team to develop sources of revenue streams and generate impact

Work across the organisation to ensure shared knowledge of the programme's technical direction

Participate in open innovation activities as an expert and mentor for startups and corporates, including detailed technical consulting at times

Build networks across the UK's academic, startup and industry communities

Support recruitment for AI/ML roles and others relevant to expertise

Key Objectives - Demonstrate thought leadership in AI and Machine Learning, Successful delivery of projects, to achieve programme milestones, Effective planning and support to B&D team in initiation of new projects

What We're Looking For

Broad and hands-on experience with key technologies in AI, including (but not limited to) machine learning, deep learning, data science - in terms of algorithms, data engineering, software tools and hardware

Especially desirable for this post is experience with data integration, interoperability, and data architectures to support AI & ML

Educated to degree level in Computer Science or related subject or qualified by experience, a postgraduate degree would be advantageous

Demonstrable experience working with Python or similar languages. Comfortable with data driven libraries such as pandas, numpy and scipy. Familiarity with at least one common machine learning framework, such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, Theano, MXnet, Chainer, CNTK Experience using a GPU (locally, or in the cloud)

Experience with using cloud-based services for development and deployment of machine learning models. Familiarity with the software development stack including git, SQL, docker

Broad understanding of current technology debates in AI+ML, their economic implications and sustainability

Project initiation, formulation and leadership experience from a consulting, research or commercial setting

Outstanding presenter and communicator to a wider range of business, technical and political audiences with the ability to present complex issues in a simple way

Proactive and self-confident, adaptable and able to cope with ambiguity, changing and evolving priorities whilst being able to identify new opportunities

Excellent analytical and reasoning skills, very collaborative working style, desire and ability to share ideas

Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills, with a creative and flexible attitude
