The UKHO is on an exciting digital transformation as it continues on its journey to become a world leading marine geospatial information agency (MGIA). With this brings career defining opportunities for Data Engineers, Lead Data Engineers and Senior Data Engineers to help realise our vision.

 About the UKHO

UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

The role

Data Engineers, Lead Data Engineers and Senior Data Engineers will work on projects that will be central to realising the MGIA vision - building systems that deliver data to analysts, customers and products in the correct form via automated pipelines that apply leading edge technologies such as deep learning, distributed computing and serverless architectures.

Your technical work will be varied, ranging from prototyping activities, to design and implementation of data pipeline systems and software. This will be expedited by DevOps and MLOps-style continuous improvement and deployment practices in an agile working environment.

Lead Data Engineers, assisted by Senior Data Engineers will also be responsible for setting standards, coaching and sharing knowledge with more junior Data Engineers.

What we are looking for

Across all posts Data Engineers will be degree educated (or equivalent) in Computer Science or in a scientific or engineering discipline. You will be proficient in data engineering skills, i.e. Python, Linux and Version Control. You will bring to the role experience of prototyping, building, and testing software along with knowledge and understanding of the geospatial problem domain and the ability to pick up new technologies quickly.

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check and gain a Security Clearance.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.

These roles are open to part-time applications and those seeking flexible working hours including working from home.
