Are you looking for a new challenge and want to stay relevant at the bleeding edge of a fast moving industry? Do you work well under pressure and relish sharing responsibility for managing business critical infrastructure systems?

We are looking for someone with experience who can fit in to an amazing engineering team. You don't need to know everything or understand how to operate all the systems we use. But you understand the principles of the technologies used in the world of cloud computing infrastructure management and are willing to learn how to use an ever expanding list of new tools.

Pipe Ten are primarily based in the Sheffield's heritage Kelham Island Quarter and have been providing managed hosting infrastructure to thousands of customers across the UK since 2002. Our solutions focus on helping businesses who want to improve the security, performance and reliability of their web applications by relieving them from the burden of managing complex infrastructure, allowing them to focus on their applications.

Your time at Pipe Ten will involve the architecting, deployment & maintenance of private / hybrid / public cloud infrastructures to support customers' web application solutions. Being an application, infrastructure and public cloud agnostic service provider, the role is ideally suited to candidates with "full stack" understanding and interest in a wide range of web application delivery technology and method. Pipe Ten operate as an extension of their client's in house team so you will have direct contact with clients' developers to ensure operations can be fulfilled efficiently without external interference. As part of a relatively small but expert team, you will have the opportunity and support to find your place to further the mutual goals of the business, colleagues and yourself.

We've classified the role DevOps but could more traditionally fall under a systems engineer or server engineer role. Regardless, a brief idea of the types of systems that you'd be come across whilst working clients' systems across both Private & Public Cloud infrastructure following ISO 27001 and PCI DSS standards are: Web Servers, Database Servers, Application Servers, Load Balancers, Firewalls, Switches, Hypervisors, PDUs, Intrusion Detection Systems, Monitoring Systems, Backup Systems, Automation, DNS and more.

Hopefully the above gives you an idea of what you'll be engaged with and what we are looking for in the role with the understanding that we haven't covered everything. We don't expect you to understand how to manage all of the types of systems in great detail right now, just that you are willing to learn. There will be plenty of opportunities to grow your knowledge and choose to work on the aspects that most interest you.

We don't expect you to have a degree or have 10 years of experience of doing this sort of thing but we are looking for the following traits:

Hold a strong a passion for technology both inside and outside the working environment.

Have good communication skills.

Have a driven, committed, flexible and proactive approach to work.

Be a great problem solver and have the ability to work on under pressure.

Seek to exceed customer and colleagues expectations.

A team player able to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.

Also any additional experience of the following whilst not essential would be advantageous:

Having a working understanding of any web infrastructure such as https, DNS, email, databases virtualisation or containerisation, TCP/IP networking, scripting/web development.

Development experience in the areas of software or systems automation.

Managing high security and/or compliance controlled digital environments.

The nature of the hosting infrastructure industry means we constantly have to move with technology to ensure our client systems are up to date which means you are too.

Finally, the essentials:

A fantastic salary.

Additional generous payments for any on call requirements.

Pension.

Healthcare cash plan.

Flexible working location in office or remote.

Flexible bank holidays.

Part time or full time availability.

Weekly Friday team breakfasts.

The opportunity to grow and progress your career in the latest technologies with a team passionate about what they do.
