Senior Architect

Build WBS Technology Architecture and Research & Development.

Working closely with the Lead Database Analyst, IT Infrastructure and the WBS Development Team this role is responsible for;

Industry leading software & technology solution development, performance, architecture & design across the WBS on-prem & cloud infrastructure. All security standards should be met with architecture, design and development adhering to best practice and governance.

Input to the WBS Technology Architecture strategy and planning. Responsible for delivery of solution design and where required development.

Communication to all levels of the business (including and up to Board Level) of progress, performance and planning.

Key Responsibilities 

Software Development, Performance, Architecture & Design

Build & maintain industry leading software & technology solution development, performance, architecture & design across the WBS on-prem & cloud infrastructure. All security standards should be met with architecture, design and development adhering to best practice and governance

Responsible for the overall architecture and design of the WBS Technology stack

Architect technology design & solutions as approved on the WBS Product Roadmap to a high standard against the stated scope to inform budget and delivery plan

Ensure all processes, designs, components and flows are documented and maintained centrally and to the agreed standard. Feeds into the topography of WBS Technology

Ensure all software & technology solution design, development & delivery follow appropriate governance process and policy

Demonstrate consideration of risk mitigation, functionality, capacity and efficiency in the design, maintenance and evolution of the WBS systems [and associated internally designed links to any third-party systems or programmes]

Where required write clean and healthy structured, well documented code with a focus on adopting an agile DevOps approach promoting the concept of feature flagging where possible

Build automated testing where possible and partner with Quality Assurance & User Acceptance Testing teams to ensure robust testing and appropriate sign-off

Provide technical oversight of all software delivery including the completion of a detailed "run book" setting out the change, risk assessment and recovery plan

Manage appropriate quality controls (code coverage and static analysis) and reporting metrics across all parts of the software development process. Highlight any key areas of concern / focus for improvement to both the PRC and Technology Committee as appropriate

Stay aware of latest data protection and security threats and to make sure we mitigate against these risks

Ensure compliance with development tool software licencing obligations required for the continued development of the WBS systems, and ongoing check and audit procedures are completed to ensure accurate reporting is provided to the relevant software vendors. (examples include NserviceBus; AWS etc)

Own all assigned 2nd line (Compliance & Risk) and 3rd line (Audit) actions and ensure they are completed by the agreed deadline

Leadership 

Promote the maintenance of a strong culture of compliance, risk management, integrity, innovation, client focus and other such Winterflood or Close Brothers values

Encourage and support a culture of innovation and forward thinking

Build strong relationships with other functions and business units to collectively achieve WBS strategic priorities and goals

Strategy, Planning & Delivery

Input to the WBS Technology Architecture strategy and planning. Responsible for delivery of solution design and where required development

Own research & design through horizon scanning in respect of long-term technological requirements or advancements which may meet future needs and/or to provide WBS with strategic and competitive advantage

Communication & Problem Solving

Communication to all levels of the business (including and up to Board Level) of progress, performance and planning

Provide day-to-day oversight of WBS Technology, raising any issues to the Lead Architect as appropriate

Provide input to live issues & incidents to resolve in a timely manner establishing a root cause and a plan to fix

Ensure proactive communication with all internal stakeholders - particularly with respect to technology performance & change

Ensure complete adherence to; and understanding of; the risk and compliance frameworks set out by the IT Director, Head of Compliance, and the wider Group as a whole

Required Skills and Experience 

3 years proven experience in Technology Architecture

Knowledge of cloud solutions essential

Financial Services or a regulated sector experience considered an advantage

Mandatory Qualification: A degree in a relevant IT specialism or proven experience to the same level
