TECH CHANGING | LIFE SAVING | CAREER MAKING

Technology programmes don't get much more important than this. The mission: to modernise the technology that underpins the UK blood supply chain to support the wider NHS and our donors and patients. In a fast paced, agile environment, you'll help us build new capabilities and deliver real technology change, faster and more effectively than ever as we support the realisation of NHSBT's core mission of saving and improving more lives.

The work of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) impacts on a huge proportion of the population. Every month, we gather thousands of units of blood for transfusion purposes, and we work tirelessly to enable the retrieval and transportation organs and tissues to the optimal patient. Digital, Data and Technology Services play a vital part in this work. And it is within this forward-thinking team that you could find an exceptional challenge, plus the scope to develop your skills and expertise even further.

About the role

You will play a key role in the modernisation of blood technology IT systems, which includes conversion to a .NET/C# code base. Reporting to the Head of Blood Systems Testing, you will take the lead on embedding test automation capabilities into the organisation.

Your goal will be to improve testing effectiveness and enhance the speed at which we are able to deliver IT change. This will include defining and maintaining a test automation framework, as well as writing software test scripts, test cases and reports. In particular you will ensure testing processes adhere to good practice and meet the needs of NHSBT.

You will also champion automated systems testing, explaining the benefits at workshops and other engagements with senior stakeholders as well as contributing to the testing community of practice, coaching and learning from peers from across the organisation.

About you

We are looking for senior candidates who have a digital, agile mindset along with a positive and can-do attitude. We want you to play a key role in the development of our team through mentoring and coaching.

You will have significant experience as a test automation engineer, ideally with a relevant degree or professional qualification to underpin it. In addition, we are looking for you to

  • Have expert knowledge of both black box and white box testing, test management and relevant legislation
  • Have experience testing software systems based on Oracle and Microsoft .NET technologies
  • Have significant experience working in an agile / lean software development environment
  • Be well versed in writing test scripts, conducting software testing, review outputs, resolve defects and be able to communicate the output to a wider range of stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of test management, estimation, monitoring and control
  • Be articulate and credible, building relationships with stakeholders throughout the organisation
  • Be a team-player who enjoys working with and managing a wide range of senior stakeholders.

About us

At NHSBT, we set standards that other healthcare organisations aspire to. Our people are passionate about saving and enhancing as many lives as possible, and despite the difficult circumstances of the last year, they have worked collaboratively to drive the most incredible results.

We champion a truly progressive mind-set in which we all want to raise our standards wherever possible, so you will find an exceptional workplace in which to implement your skills. In turn, we can offer a friendly working environment in which colleagues genuinely enjoy the work that they are doing, enhanced by exceptional training and development opportunities.

You will also have access to a generous benefits package that includes plenty of annual leave, a competitive pension, multiple staff discounts and a great work/life balance.

So, if you are ready to put your skills to the test in an organisation that will challenge you to think bigger and better, then you will be a natural fit in our team.

We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace and aim to reflect the diverse communities we work with and positively encourage applications from all sectors of the community.
