The work of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) impacts on a huge proportion of the population. Every month, we gather thousands of units of blood for transfusion purposes, and we work tirelessly to enable the retrieval and transportation organs and tissues to the optimal patient. Digital, Data and Technology Services play a vital part in this work. And it is within this forward-thinking team that you could find an exceptional challenge, plus the scope to develop your skills and expertise even further. 

About the role

Taking responsibility for managing large budgets and reporting for a number of high-profile major programmes within the blood and donor digital portfolio, you will be responsible for ensuring the work we do is appropriately governed, aligned to organisation programme management methodologies and most importantly, ensure we report accurately on progress to various boards including the NHS board and cabinet office.

Our major programmes are the delivery vehicle through which we will realise the blood technology strategy, they will be responsible for delivering highly complex technology change to national critical applications and associated technologies that will future proof the UK blood supply chain. It is therefore critical we accurately and consistently manage our budgets, progress reporting and stay on top of any risks and issues that may arise for which your role is essential

Out with the portfolio, you will be engage with the wider programme management community to ensure our portfolio continues to be aligned to organisation programme management methodologies and you will be tasked with continuously looking for ways we can improve the way we work and our alignment.

About you

We are looking for candidates who are highly analytical and pay close attention to detail, We're looking for you to have a digital, agile mindset along with a positive and can-do attitude and are keen to develop your skills further.

As a key member of our portfolio team, we are looking for you to utilise your experience to support the management of a number of high-profile programmes. We expect you to be well versed in project and delivery management methodologies (both agile, waterfall, product focussed) and ideally have a related qualification or degree to underpin your practical experience.

We are also looking for you to:

Have extensive knowledge and experience of project management to cabinet office (OGC) Prince 2 practitioner level and managing successful programmes (MSP) Level or equivalent experience

Have extensive experiencing managing the budget and reporting for large scale programmes

Have great problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate risks and identify the measures that need to be taken whilst communicating progress to senior executives and boards.

Be a able to manage and influence a variety of stakeholders to ensure that programme reporting is completed and risks and issues are being appropriately tracked and managed in line with the portfolio governance

Have extensive knowledge and experience of MS office products, particularly Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Project
