We plan and invest in transport infrastructure to the UK moving.

Our experienced and talented Digital Service teams currently:

Provide the Digital, Data and Technology capabilities that equip everyone to work.
Drive efficiency by optimising the Department's business processes.
Increase workforce productivity by delivering smarter, better services and a digital culture.
Provide advice and expertise to policymakers on the impact of technology in the transport system.

As a Lead Technical Architect, you will work with the management team to determine the organisations keys needs, translating them into the technical solutions that are optimised for the future. The lead Architect will also be responsible for the development portfolio and maintain the DfTc's digital and development estate. Making strategic decisions, ensuring development is aligned with design and delivery targets are met will be key to the continuous improvement of the digital and architecture maturity.

Responsibilities
Include but not limited to:

Be responsible for the development portfolio and maintain DfTc's digital and development estate across several directorates.
Support the production and implementation of the DfTc 's digital and technology strategy.
Work with the organisation and Digital Service to provide advice, guidance, assurance on multiple projects that require broad architectural thinking to meet their delivery targets.
Embed architecture governance through the Architecture Change Board ensuring architecture alignment technical designs, DfT's architecture principles and standards and communicating their decisions.
Influence technology decisions across DfT through demonstrating technology value, risk and opportunity at an enterprise level
Develop digital roadmaps aligned to business need, business capability, and the DfTc digital and technology strategy. Support future state technology visions for directorates and develop transitional architecture plans to deliver them.

As a digital architect, you will be:

Collaborating with the business relationship management team to determine the organisational needs, translating into technical requirements and designing digital solutions that are optimised for the future.
Defining and applying digital and development principles, patterns, technologies and frameworks in conjunction with other technical leaders.
Advising and assuring development teams during the project lifecycle ensuring the solution is developed in accordance with the technical design and meeting their delivery targets.
Making strategic design decisions and provide architectural governance which support digital delivery for the organisation.
Driving the continuous improvement of the digital and application architecture's maturity, challenging existing ways of working and technology choices, incorporating knowledge and lessons learned from projects and initiatives, as well as best practice.
Supporting the directorates through procurement by reviewing any commercial proposals, ensuring DfT architecture principles and standards are complied with, delivering value for money and the adoption of digital and application solutions is aligned with DfT's strategy.
Supporting the adoption of the Government digital initiatives, maximising reuse of capability to deliver coherent services.

About you

You will come from a strong architecture background, with the drive to be an ambassador for architecture in Digital Services and across DfTc supporting the business in develop their digital ambitions. You can assess complex technical issues and inform and influence senior stakeholders in a non-technical manner. You will have a pro-active approach to problem solving and be creative in delivering solutions that both fix problems and move DfT towards a better managed, cost-effective digital future.
