MI6 is the UK's foreign human intelligence agency. Every day, we gather secret intelligence from all over the world that helps us protect the UK. Our work requires sophisticated technology and innovative techniques, which is why we need your help. As a graduate Software, Data or Test Engineer, you'll build a varied career at the forefront of tech - and give us a crucial edge.

The role

Ultimately, your role is to make sure MI6 gets the technology it needs. So you'll be creating products and services, integrating existing solutions and innovating as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.

Our professionals work with many popular modern programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, C#, Java) and technologies (e.g. cloud tech stacks, Elastic, Jenkins, Hadoop, MongoDB). Whatever your specialism, you'll follow the full testing and review lifecycle to get game-changing products delivered.

Meanwhile, you'll be spending time with different teams to build your experience; mapping out a career pathway; and taking advantage of our many learning and development opportunities. Here, you can deepen your skills through everything from classroom and online learning to training schemes. Proud to use your expertise to help safeguard the nation, you'll be hungry to learn and prepared to mentor more junior colleagues.

About you

You've got a relevant degree (or equivalent) and some industry experience. Now you're keen to take your career to another level. Fluent in a modern scripting or programming language, you'll relish the chance to join an agile, world-class team. You'll bring good knowledge of IT standards and the benefits of DEVOP, as well as natural communication skills.

If you meet some of the criteria above, but not all, we'll still welcome your application. People are the most important aspect of our organisation and we'll work with you to bridge any gaps in your knowledge.

Apply

All our roles come with a full range of benefits including a cycle to work scheme, interest-free season ticket loan and access to a subsidised gym. However, the true rewards lie in using your talents for the greater good. Find out more and apply via our website.

MI6 is an Equal Opportunities employer, committed to reflecting the society we protect. Our recruitment process is fair, transparent and based on merit. We particularly welcome applications from diverse and under-represented groups.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. One of your parents must be a British Citizen or must have one of the nationalities or citizenships from one of the following: British Overseas territory, British subject, British National (Overseas), British protected person, citizenship of the Commonwealth, EEA nationality, or citizenship of the United States of America. If deceased, have had such citizenship or nationality before death. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. If successful, you will not normally be required to give up your non-British citizenship but, as a condition of your employment or secondment, MI5 may impose restrictions on your postings, work travel and/or general use of that nationality. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. Each case will be carefully considered on its own facts. You can apply at the age of 17 years and 6 months, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Discretion is vital. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member. Please note, you should only launch your application from within the UK. If you are based overseas, you should wait until you visit the UK to launch an application. Applying from outside of the UK will impact on our ability to progress your application. Further information on our eligibility criteria can be found on the Applying section.
