Job Introduction

The purpose of the Database Administrator role is to manage and maintain MPS data functions to ensure the high availability of all business-critical databases and overall performance of the MPS data systems. You'll be crucial to the development of the data strategy moving forward for organisation

Main Responsibilities

As a Database Administrator with MPS, you'll be working with other teams within Digital and Change to deliver effective Database Management to the entire global organisation. You'll be working across a variety of projects, including the migration to Azure. Your responsibilities will include:

You'll work across with the wider Digital and Change division to deliver effective Database Management and complex changes, while adhering to in place governance

You'll actively seek opportunities to improve service delivery; through contributing ideas and making suggestions on how processes, tooling, solutions and ways of working can be enhanced, taking the initiative on implementing these 

You'll need to keep abreast of all evolving trends, solutions and principles so you can make recommendations for improvement to data infrastructure and how MPS could utilise them

As a Database Administrator you'll be ready and willing to embrace other duties and tasks that may occasionally be allocated to you.

The Ideal Candidate

As a Database Administrator within MPS, you'll possess the following:

Skills and qualifications:

Data security; backup, recovery technology and techniques

Disaster recovery implementations

Understanding of Data Schema standards and concepts

You'll possess the ability to balance business needs with data protection and security obligations

Able to effectively communicate complex concepts to people with varying levels of knowledge

Capable of working under pressure and to strict deadlines, and the ability to assimilate and learn concepts from outside own area of expertise

Experience:

Significant experience of working with SQL Server in a production environment, and experience of T-SQL for development

Experience using the Microsoft stack would be beneficial

Extensive experience of enterprise database design, strategy and architecture - Powershell development and SSIS/SSRS would be ideal, but not necessary

Experience of delivering technical projects from design to implementation

Performance tuning and optimisation using monitoring and troubleshooting tools
