Could your skills help transform the way we pursue serious and organised crime?

Human traffickers, firearms and drugs dealers, cybercriminals and exploiters of children - at the NCA, we work at the cutting-edge of law enforcement, tackling those posing the most serious threat to UK life.

Now, more than ever, serious and organised criminals are finding new and more ruthless ways to prey on vulnerable people and the wider public. And as the crime landscape continues to evolve, so do we. Our teams work creatively and collaboratively to find new and unexpected ways to stay ahead. Join them and your work will have a serious impact as you help us protect millions of people across the UK.

Your role

As a Data Scientist, you'll develop new ways to identify and pursue serious organised criminality. It's a stimulating role at the very heart of the NCA, in which you'll join a multi-functional team from our Centre of Data Excellence (CoDE), solving critical operational problems as well as spearheading data innovation. As you deliver data analysis solutions, you'll also take part in specific strategic projects, provide expert advice across the NCA, and represent us at national and international forums.

You may also be expected to work directly or indirectly in tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse. This may involve exposure to child sexual abuse images and material, so please consider the sensitive nature of our work before deciding to apply.

Your background

You will have experience of scripting languages such as Python, designing data solutions and solving operational data problems.

You'll be confident in coming up with analytical approaches, using structured methodologies within a complex data environment. Combining this with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, you will enjoy promoting the value of data science work to a broad array of audiences.

We're also looking for people with a strategic as well as an analytical mindset. You'll be flexible and open to new ideas, able to constantly change and improve your ways of working while making effective decisions.

Rewards

We take your career and development seriously and want to help you build a truly successful career with us and the wider Civil Service. So, we'll make sure you receive the right training, guidance and coaching as well as regular performance and development reviews. What's more, as a Civil Service employee you're also entitled to a large range of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, volunteering days, childcare vouchers and other salary sacrifice options, and an employee discount scheme.

The breadth of our capabilities means there's no such thing as a typical NCA officer. We recruit people from virtually every walk of life, from police to project management, crime analysis and commercial procurement. Join us and we'll give you the powers, time and resources to see cases through, as well as high-profile experience to add to your record. On top of this, you'll get to work at the heart of law enforcement response and deal with the biggest threats to national security.
