Systems Design Engineer

Would you like the opportunity to work on the most significant project that we have, with the most complex system that we deliver from an SI perspective? We currently have a vacancy for a Systems Design Engineer at our site in New Malden.*

As a Shared Systems Design Engineer, you will be working on the Type 26 frigate largely to support the technical authority and interact and engage with engineers across a wide spectrum of skills. This is a demanding technical role, and an opportunity for the right candidate to take on a position of significant responsibility and ownership of technical issues and some delivery aspects.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on an exciting project gaining new skills and knowledge along with working with a wide range of stakeholders, whilst ultimately being able to see the finished product on board the ship. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to progress within the business, and this role could potentially provide a stepping stone into a Technical Authority role.

Your main responsibilities as a Systems Design Engineer will involve:

Processing Shared Infrastructure (SI) System Definition changes, DNS list updates, other system owned build inputs

Assisting with the Data Management work; gathering technical information from within SI teams, pulling together technical diagrams and identifying gaps in data sources

Supporting the trouble shooting of system-wide issues found at Land Based Test Site across a number of technical domains (e.g. networking and software)

Provide system support to in-house developed tools - ELA build and data extraction tool tool and Network Configuration Generator tool

Provide system support to Integration with particular emphasis on start-up and resilience testing

Tracking Land Based Test Site Observation Reports and seeing technical issues through to successful resolution

Assisting with system delivery documentation.

Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required.

Act as a member of a technical team created to accomplish tasks of a specialist nature

Your skills and qualifications:

General Systems Engineering experience across a delivery lifecycle

Some experience of Networking, Virtualisation, SAN & VDI technologies would be beneficial

Experience of design document creation and system level details capture

Hands on system experience of a system similar to SI

Experience of System Design work and dealing with large projects with multiple inputs and stakeholders

Naval System experience an advantage

What we're looking for in you:

Degree qualified, likely to be in a technology, engineering or science related discipline

Meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional body

Excellent communication skills - verbal and written - and ability to adapt communication style to the stakeholder group

Well-motivated individual with a strong desire to succeed

Location: *New Malden - although there is flexibility to work 3 days from New Malden and 2 days at one of our other sites/ from home
