As a Big Data Engineer in one of our feature teams you'll work in a highly collaborative way and enjoy seeing the influence of your work by crafting digital experiences for our customers across our web, mobile and tablet applications.
Core Purpose of the Role:
This is a phenomenal opportunity to join our team. You'll be working in a collaborative fashion driving effort to build, support and improve our backend software, all while working closely with our product and engineering teams which will provide exciting new challenges.
You will be Responsible for the ingestion, maintenance, improvement, cleaning and manipulation of data in operational and analytics databases including the resolution of existent issues. An understanding of Big Data solutions, preferably with hands-on experience building both batch and real-time data pipelines within scalable distributed environments
What we're looking for:
A track record of the required experience proven on a real production platform is a must, as are a "can-do" attitude, capability of bootstrapping projects, and ability to effectively work with multi-disciplinary, internal and external distributed teams across the project lifecycle. Strong DevOps/SRE background and deep knowledge of automated builds, code quality metrics etc. You appreciate and acknowledge the impact of system design decisions on scalability, resilience and supportability. So you'll need to show a real passion for developing new solutions and translating data into analytics based opportunities - role-modelling Data Engineering as it should be in the new digital age.
Essentials:
Deep and broad understanding of Java, (OR)Python
Experience of Hadoop stack especially tools Spark, Sqoop, Hive and Hbase
Experience with Agile methods
Configuration management tools - e.g. Git
Significant experience of agile development practices - TDD, BDD, automated builds, continuous integration, tooling to monitor code quality
Desirables:
Automation and building frameworks - e.g. Ant/Maven
Unit testing frameworks - e.g. JUnit
Continuous delivery with dependency management solutions such as Nexus
SQL databases
Experience with deployment, monitoring and management technologies. Examples: UrbanCode, Splunk, etc)
Proven technical and team leadership
