SQL Database Administrator

My client, a market leading software company who are currently experiencing another exciting period of growth are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join the team. This role will be based at their new head offices based in Lichfield, Staffordshire!

The SQL Database Administrator will be expected to maintain flawless day to day operations of databases and enable the expansion of the business by supporting projects and the production environment by installing, administering and managing development and production databases.

Key Responsibilities:

*Ensure day-to-day running of SQL Server estate through monitoring of disk space, backups, log shipping, database mirroring, clustering, availability groups and troubleshooting failed jobs.

*Managing the performance of the SQL databases, develop and scale these databases according to the organisations needs to help provide a 24/7 service.

*Conduct troubleshooting and security bug fixing on databases and applications, resolving issues without excessive downtime or any data loss.

*Validate data and perform testing to ensure that the database systems meet end user's requirements. Ensuring that data is intact, correct, and accessible after a server migration, SQL upgrade or backup.

*Gather requirements to design and structure databases to ensure they meet functional requirements.

*Look to increase system efficiency by automating tasks to decrease development time.

*Adhere to best practices around database security and access.

*Maintain documentation for the database estate and ensure all versions are supported.

*Ensuring the resilience of the service is maintained at all times.

*Maintain and build security into the existing and new platforms.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

*Experience within industry in a similar role, including some exposure and/or knowledge of high-availability systems.

*Proven track record in Database administration of SQL Server 2008 - 2017.

*First class troubleshooting skills, with an ability to demonstrate this as part of the recruitment process.

*Experience of supporting Microsoft SQL Server in physical and virtualised server environments (VMware).

*Create low level documentation around the setup and configuration of Database services, working within a change-controlled environment.

*An exposure of Security measures and monitoring within the SQL environment.

*A good team player - ability to liaise effectively with work colleagues with a professional approach, especially when under pressure.

*Excellent interpersonal skills

*Experience of supporting Azure would be advantageous as well as knowledge of alternative databases such as Mongo and Elastic

*Scripting Languages (e.g. PowerShell, T-SQL, VBScript, JavaScript, Python, etc.) would also be useful.
