Do you enjoy working with people to get things done and improve how it happens? Are you a champion for purposeful, methodical ways of working as the way to achieve real impact? Would you love to work in a supportive team of project management legends? Then this may be the opportunity for you. CLIC Sargent has just brought together its project and programme managers into a new Project Management Office and this is an opportunity to shape how it works. Being the Head of Projects (Maternity Cover) at CLIC Sargent will give you an opportunity to play a leading role in exciting projects that will deliver sustainable, long term value for the organisation and make a difference to the lives of young people with cancer, and shape the newly formed PMO and how we work right across the organisation.

As Head of Projects, you'll manage the Project Management Office (PMO) and ensure the delivery of an effective Corporate Project and Programme Management function for the whole organisation. You will lead an experienced, passionate, hardworking team, committed to driving performance by getting everyone to work in the right way across the whole organisation. The PMO is at the heart of the newly formed Strategy & Governance Directorate, shaping how the whole charity works. The PMO plans, manages and delivers a number of strategically important projects for the organisation directly and supports and challenges others in their ways of working - setting the project management standards and controls, and helping people apply them - so 2 days are never the same.

You will be confident that our project standards and ways of working are the right ones, and if you are not, you'll change them for the better, working step by step with your key stakeholders and bringing everyone with you. And you'll make conversations about failure a safe space, championing an open and transparent approach to ensure that we learn and improve from what we do.

You should have a proven track record in successfully managing complex, cross-functional programmes and projects including those involving a high degree of risk and involvement of senior leadership. You'll inspire, motivate and lead your colleagues. You'll have a good understanding of different project, programme and portfolio management approaches and when to apply them. You'll be an experienced manager, communicator, influencer and negotiator - with strong relationships with senior management groups. And you'll be a passionate advocate for the kind of culture and systems that lead to successful project delivery: open, transparent, purposeful, accountable, clear, and continuously learning.
