Since then, the Company has unlocked a new route to scalable fusion power that is cost-effective and does not require huge infrastructure and capital expenditure.The technology will revolutionise the world's energy production - it will be possible to produce more energy, more cheaply and with fewer harmful side effects (e.g. with no long-term nuclear waste or carbon emissions). This is the chance to join a fast-growing high technology company with an agile, dynamic team and to tackle the challenge of a lifetime.The Role:They are now seeking a Magnet Engineer to work in the HTS magnet team. The successful candidate will be contributing to the HTS magnet technology development including conductor evaluation, coil modelling, quench protection, coil design and coil fabrication.This is a core role in the pioneering work taking place on HTS magnet development at the Company. The successful candidate will have experience of working with superconducting materials, either HTS or Low Temperature Superconductors (LTS), to fabricate magnet coil structures.A rounded knowledge of the electrical, thermal and mechanical issues affecting magnet design is highly desirable. A methodical, analytic mindset is expected as well as being organised, self-driven and able to work to defined scopes and timescales. Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team of engineers designing new and complex devices.Key Responsibilities:Leading magnet development projects and sub-projectsDevelopment of HTS magnet design and component designContributing to the development of HTS magnet simulation tools, predominantly using MatlabContributing to the development of HTS magnet structures, quench protection components and magnet assembly toolingInterpreting test results and producing clear written reportsThe role may involve some practical experimentation in the HTS Magnet Laboratory on HTS tapes, assemblies and magnetsThe Candidate:Essential:Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering disciplineA good understanding of the principles of electromagnetismExperience of working with superconducting materialsExperience of working in a team of scientists and/or engineersExperience of analysing test data and producing well-structured technical reports for senior management teamAbility to contribute effectively in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientistsHighly motivated to deliver against challenging objectives in a compressed timescaleWillingness to learn new techniques and technologiesAbility to work effectively with minimal supervisionAbility to devise and operate effective project schedulesDesirable:Familiarity of working with HTSFamiliarity of working with magnet modelling/design software (e.g. DASSAULT OPERA, MATLAB, COMSOL)Experience of performing practical work in a laboratory or engineering research environmentExperience of project leading or project managementOrganised approach to complex problemsBenefits:25 days holiday (plus bank holidays)Company pension schemeEligible for company share option scheme after 1 years' serviceCompany bonus scheme, discretionary, dependant on performancePrivate medical insurance after 3 months servicePlease note: Only candidates with the relevant skills and experience will be contacted regarding this position.
