A business that brings insight and efficiency to one of the world’s most valuable sectors - commercial property, is looking for a Lead Ruby on Rails Developer in London. With an innovative business model and products, their market-leading data and mapping platform is growing quickly (20%+ per month). They already work with hundreds of property firms in the UK (including leading brands JLL, CBRE, Savills, BNP) and have plans for international expansion. They are currently in the process of improving an existing product consisting of Ruby and Rails and Node.js applications. That includes refactoring some parts of the codebase and improving performance as well as adding new features. The team is very small, and you will be expected to jump straight into the code, and - over time - take over the technical ownership of the project. As a Lead Ruby on Rails Developer, your responsibilities will include:Writing clean, maintainable, performant and well tested, modern code.Working closely with the product team on maintenance and improvement of current features. Working with other developers across the stack, participating in planning and the design of the software. Introducing and applying good software practices and patterns to continuously improve the quality of products and codebase. Ensuring good test coverage, reliability, and performance of products.Taking ownership of the codebase across two products. To be a successful Lead Ruby on Rails Developer, you will have the following skills and experiences:
Extensive commercial experience of working with web technologies.Fluency with Ruby (RoR).Some experience with (or willingness to learn) Node.js and MongoDB.A good grasp of front-end development (JavaScript, CoffeeScript).A good understanding of web application architecture and design patterns.Experience working with web APIs.a very good grasp of SQL databases, especially Postgre SQL.A habit of applying best development practices, using git, git-flow, testing, refactoring etc.Good command line and Linux skills.Excellent communication and the ability to learn and understand the business domain.Some understanding of DevOps and deployment (AWS). In return, a Lead Ruby on Rails Developer will receive a salary of up to £80,000 per annum plus a generous equity package.
