Junior Software Engineer

Join our highly-skilled Combat Systems team and you'll be part of something you can be proud of; equipping the Royal Navy with another world class capability. We currently have vacancies for Junior Software Engineer's at our site in New Malden, Surrey.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will design, develop and support Naval Command Systems that provide the nerve centre for ships. You will combine information from the equipment on the ship (like Radar, Sonar etc.) to form a picture of what is going on around the vessel, helping the crew make decisions and take action if required.

You could be developing the Systems that end up deployed in the Royal Navy's fleet of Ships and Submarines, which will be used to support the crew, as they police the world's oceans, whether delivering humanitarian aid or in combat.

Your main responsibilities as a Junior Software Engineer could involve:

Software Engineering: designing, writing, testing and maintaining the software that instructs the system how to behave

Integrating: putting the components of the system together, carrying out tests and working closely with the software people to resolve issues

Contributing to process improvement within the team to ensure that the team always looks to improve how it works

Working to the professional standards expected of the role

Documenting appropriate information, so that others can understand the software and the system

Liaising with other team members, teams and customers to ensure key information is understood

Your skills and qualifications as a Junior Software Engineer:

Ideally looking for a 2:2 degree or above in a software/computing related subject, other areas with significant computing elements will be considered as will the equivalent qualification or experience.

Programming languages: C++, C#, .net framework, Ada would be an advantage but this is not essential. Any programming language would be acceptable

Previous working experience with computers would be an advantage but not essential

Salary: Circa £27,000
