Closing date: 2nd January 2020 The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Software Engineer to join their team within the Materials Science and Scientific Computing department. You will help drive UKAEA`s simulation software stack into a new era. You will help the development of world leading engineering simulation software to solve highly coupled problems. The simulations performed will help drive our engineering design cycle by the provision of high-fidelity multiscale calculations. Key areas of responsibility will include: - Performing simulations across many diverse HPC systems including our onsite HPC infrastructure
- Scaling the simulations out to national (Catalyst, Dirac, Isambard, Archer) and international HPC resources (BSC, Marconi, JSC).
- Support in developing algorithms that help our engineering simulations scale to the size needed to address highly coupled physics environments.
- Have a long-term interest in the development of our digital twinning infrastructure, to allow geometry to be pulled from databases, pre-processing to be automatically performed, simulations spawned and queried.
- You will / will become an internationally recognised technical expert and in a number of cases, will be UKAEA`s main or sole representative on international projects.
- Negotiating and presenting to the wider HPC community in order to grow UKAEA`s reputation and bring added value to the UKAEA Fusion programme. - Relevant scientific/engineering/computing degree or equivalent
- Experience of high-performance computing
- An in-depth knowledge of the software and data lifecycles
- Good team player with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work to strict deadlines
- A detailed working knowledge of a performant compiled language preferably C++ (but C & Fortran will be considered) Desirable
- Experience of database technologies NodeDB, GraphDB, MySQL
- Experience of digital twinning
- Experience of on demand simulation orchestration
- Experience of scientific workflows infrastructures
- Experience of a major or leading role in a range of scientific/engineering software projects (preferably in fusion & other science or industry contexts).
- Experience of software development in a production environment and all the qualities there of (CI, testing, containerisation, deployment, etc)
- Demonstrated success on large codebase with fusion relevant physics (nuclear, radiation transport, finite element, CFD, etc) Special requirements:
