The Distribution function is the client facing arm of the Asset Manager, encompassing Sales, Relationship Management (RM), and Client Service, operating in over 30 countries. As the function continues to grow and develop globally, so the requirement to service this division with timely, accurate and insightful Management Information (MI) is critical to managing the business.The Business Intelligence (BI) team is a small business facing team embedded within the Distribution function, located primarily in London but serving a diverse set of consumers at all levels right across Distribution. The team has the responsibility for running a MIS platform as well as producing a variety of printable monthly reports for senior management. It covers the back end databases as well as the front end reporting and visualisations.
Overview of roleThis is a manager position, responsible for managing and leading a small, cross-functional Business Intelligence feature team (currently six people).
You will be the product owner, responsible for leading the team’s activities, including running a range of MI and reporting initiatives, running the BAU function, driving change through development of new reporting solutions, and answering all ad-hoc requests from senior management including the preparation of materials for Group Management Committee and Board papers.
You must be comfortable being involved in the end to end process; setting the agenda for the team, scoping out projects, designing, building, and reviewing reports, and delivering insights to our customers. The team’s responsibilities include everything from back end data source preparation through to report visualisation and writing and delivering business commentary.
This role provides the opportunity to stamp your own mark on a dynamic and growing business function and gives exposure right up to GMC level.Key Responsibilities
Global MI and Reporting:

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Distribution’s BI capability
Responsible for production and collation of regular and ad-hoc MI reports as required by the Distribution CEO; COO; Head of Sales; Head of MI and Analytics; and Distribution Management Team (DMT) members
Responsible for promoting and marketing new and existing reporting solutions to all of our report consumers, through traditional and innovative methods
Oversight of team’s BAU reporting including the MIS platform, currently in Tableau
Design and create prototype self service analytical tools and dashboards, ad-hoc analysis reports, and presentations
Writing and delivering commentary on business performance to Senior Management forums
Improve and refine Distribution’s MI & reporting solutions on an ongoing basis, building out the capability, and working with key partners and firm-wide projects where necessary.
Complete ongoing reviews of the teams processes, seeking to standardise and automate wherever possible
Coordinate BI projects with other business areas
Key involvement in all change initiatives for BI within Distribution
Train up members of the team and wider department on the latest tools and techniques, empowering them to become self-sufficient at creating their own MI and using tools such as Tableau, SalesForce Einstein Analytics, and others.
Management and team responsibilities
The role holder will have direct managerial oversight of two front end developers in London and one in Asia.
Your team has a global remit and holds responsibility for delivering solutions into, and managing stakeholder relationships with, APAC, Europe, Americas and UK.
The feature team also has two back end developers. Whilst not managing directly, you will have responsibility for the projects worked on by these developers and the overall success of the delivery of the feature team.
You will act as the Product Owner for the BI capability in Distribution
Essential SkillsExperienced in the development and deployment of MI and reporting solutions
A good understanding of how BI tools such as Tableau and Alteryx work and experience using these would be beneficial

Project management experience including using Agile and Scrum techniques

Experienced at managing and motivating small teams

A track record of delivering to tight deadlines

Experienced in facing off to senior management and presenting to large groups of people
Good interpersonal and communication skills - capable of interacting confidently at all levels of the Distribution organisation including overseas stakeholders

A team-player, with the ability to operate effectively in a collegiate, collaborative, high performance environment

A good understanding of the Asset Management sector / investment practices including the challenges faced in running and growing a Distribution function would be beneficial

Some knowledge of Financial Statements, Management accounts and business performance metrics would be beneficial

Creative and innovative thinker, ability to explore business problems and collaboratively devise solutions that aren’t always immediately apparent

Charismatic and passionate individual, with the ability to influence people and drive the demand for data driven decision making
