Join the Imaging Group to support and develop coherent diffractive imaging.
Your role
Electron and X-ray diffractive imaging techniques, such as ptychography, can be used to explore the properties of complex materials with high spatial resolution. The development and application of these techniques is growing rapidly and to drive this forward at Diamond we are seeking to improve the experimental workflow (assisting with data processing and interpretation, rapid-computation and real-time feedback) and to develop new methods to address current scientific needs.
This role will be to develop new computational methods for both acquisition and interpretation of data, improve expertise in the user community (workshops, documentation, tutorials) and assist users to get the most from their data.
As part of a team, within the Imaging Group, you will help drive beamline scientific output and beamline development by working closely with users and Imaging group scientists to improve core capabilities and to develop and introduce new methods also working closely with the experienced software scientists and engineers of the Data Analysis Software Group.  This work will impact on how Diamond scientists and users both acquire and process their data and will help to support research in areas such as battery research or biological imaging of cells and tissue.
This role will allow you to develop and further hone your expertise within an internationally renowned multidisciplinary environment driven by the pursuit of scientific excellence.
Your new team
You will work as part of an experienced team of researchers, within the Imaging group and Data Analysis software groups to add to the extensive expertise that the team has in experimental method development, data collection and data processing. You will collaborate with other team members and our internal and external scientific users. You will have the opportunity to help others develop professionally and to create and deliver new and exciting projects. We envisage that your experience and underlying knowledge will be an indispensable asset to ensure further development of the capabilities of the Imaging Group and the wider adoption of diffractive imaging across Diamond.
What you'll need to succeed
Your ability to work effectively with people from different disciplines (interfacing with scientists and software engineers in the pursuit of scientific excellence. collecting and transforming requirements, delivering and designing innovative software) is a crucial component to the success of this project. You need to be proficient in technologies such as Java and Python and have ideally have experience of diffractive imaging or high performance computing.   You will hold practical experience of the full Software Development Lifecycle and above all, demonstrate a passion to learn and think creatively in the solutions we provide to enable science.
About the Imaging group
The Diamond Imaging Group is formed by seven facilities performing imaging experiments across a range of length and times scales:  ePSIC the electron Physical Science Imaging Centre, I08 the Scanning X-ray microscopy beamline, DIAD, the Dual imaging and Diffraction beamline, I12-JEEP the Joint Engineering and Joint Engineering, Environmental, and Processing beamline, I13-1 the Coherent imaging beamline, I3-2 the imaging beamline and I14 the hard x-ray nanoprobe beamline.
