Electrical Fitter
Would you like to work within the manufacturing department of Small Boats, repairing a wide range of military specification small boats for both the Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers? We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical Fitter at our site at the Portsmouth Naval Base.
As an Electrical Fitter, you will be working alongside Shipwright's / Boat Builders, Laminators and Mechanical Fitters, the multi-skilled trades work closely alongside each other to undertake the individual boat work packages
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be the key specialist electrician within the team and as such you will be expected to take the lead on all electrical work associated with the boats.
Your main responsibilities as an Electrical Fitter will involve:
Removal, overhaul, repair, installation and testing of electrical equipment on a variety of electrical equipment, machinery and systems
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers by managing their expectations and needs
Carrying out Electrical Testing on 12v, 24v and 240v systems
Executing various crimping techniques
Provide visible active commitment to SHE - leading by example, acting on SHE concerns.
Soldering
Carrying out electrical installation, maintenance and defect rectification in accordance with the project schedules to meet customer quality expectations
Operation of common workshop plant/hand tooling, electrical tools and common range electrical test equipment
Installation, testing and maintenance of communications equipment such as VHF radios, Intercom, GPS and AIS
Operation of common workshop plant/hand tooling; e.g.: Fixed drills, grinders, jigsaws, torque wrenches, presses, cleaning tanks etc
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Have completed either an appropriate trade apprentice or hold an equivalent qualification
An ability to fault find on installed systems is essential
Demonstrate strong SHE working practices, high standards, behaviour
Able to Read/Interpret Electrical Drawings
Desirable:
Understanding of project milestones
Knowledge of electrical installations and maintenance would be an advantage
